A plan for a wind farm is not a wind farm. Governments worldwide have set ambitious targets for offshore wind. While this is a good first step, it means nothing without a focus on implementation. On this Global Wind Day, we spotlight the need for action. Under the right conditions, offshore wind can accelerate decarbonisation, create jobs, and deliver clean, affordable power to millions of households. However, we risk missing out unless we get enough turbines in the water. The good news is that we can change this. By rethinking offshore wind auctions, we can turn more plans into actual projects. Thanks for this great initiative. We all support the targets and goals that are set. Deliberate Action is now required to reach these goals. As a major Carbon Fiber supplier, we are ready to support the wind energy sector with our advanced heavy-tow carbon fiber. I also like your approach of “creating value with non-price criteria”. This is particularly important in establishing robust supply chains that can be further decarbonized. We embarked on this recently with the launch of our CO2 reduced SIGRAFIL carbon fiber product.
Auction design is certainly an issue. But it is not enough to point the finger at others. Everyone involved should also look at themselves and ask themselves what they can do to ensure success!
I was absolutely astonished the day I was told that the wind farm I was hoping to get some electricity from wouldn’t get FID until 2030 If it actually got fid! And that was over a year ago! Bonkers

Problemet med den manglende "action" er, at politikere er bundet af vælgere der ikke forstår lg/eller ikke støtter klimakrisen og den grønne omstilling. Så hvis I ønsker mere "action", skal I vinde opbakning hos skeptikerne, ikke politikere.

3wSeveral major issues: (1) NIMBY - "not in my back yard" is local opposition to wind farms planning permission; and (2) legal and regulatory delays in grid connections with some over 10 years. Another issue is capacity of local distribution grids to transmit potential wind farm power to transmission grids. Even main transmission grids have capacity issues (e.g., multiple Scotland offshore wind farm plans versus grid capacity to transmit electricity down to England where higher demand is located). Finally the expectation of wind electricity being low single digit cost/kWh when inflation has increased supply chain costs and finance costs. All these factors affect risk view of potential sources of funding and finance, so some projects have even been abandoned part way through the planning and implementation processes. Wind should be part of an Energy Mix but these challenges need to be addressed.
