France’s election results, in which a coalition of left-wing and centrist parties staved off the insurgent rise of the far right, are being celebrated around the world—from politicians, like U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, to celebrities, including members of France’s national soccer team who are currently competing in the European Championship in Germany, writes Cole Stangler. https://ti.me/4cV56pZ

Although the National Rally is unlikely to secure an absolute majority, France will likely experience its first cohabitation since 2002. Even without holding power, this cohabitation presents nothing but a long-term opportunity for the National Rally.
After an unusually high turnout, the Rassemblement National party and its allies won 33.2% of the vote, battering President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance. https://on.ft.com/3RRIjDv

Kylian Mbappé calls on young people to vote and speaks out against the French far-right: “I am against the extremes, those who divide” | Euro Cup Germany 2024 Captain of a France in which some of his colleagues such as Ousmané Démbélé and Marcus Thuram had already raised their voices against the advance of the extreme right led by Marine Le Pen, Kylian Mbappé also joined this Sunday in a cause that he already launched on Saturday Thousands of French people take to the streets. Mbappé, who is making his captaincy for the first time in a major competition, called on his compatriots to vote with a view to the legislative elections on June 30 in order to reinforce the sanitary cordon that prevents a victory for Jordan Bardella, the designated National Group candidate. by Le Pen. “I am against the extremes, those who divide. There are young people who abstain, I want to send them this message. His voice does change things. I want to be proud to defend a country that represents my values. This is more important than tomorrow’s game because the situation in the country is different. “I believe in the values of mixing, tolerance and respect,” said the new Real Madrid player. Crowned by a white cap, one day before France debuts in the Euro Cup against Austria, a country where the extreme right also made a coup in the European elections, Mbappé’s speech was unremarkable. “I think we are at a crucial moment in our country, we are citizens first and foremost and we cannot be disconnected from the real world. It is an unprecedented situation and I want to address the people, especially the young people, we see that the extremes are approaching in the center of power and I ask the young people to go vote. We have to identify with the values of this country.” Mbappé admitted that the matter has fully entered the French team’s locker room: “We have spoken among ourselves because of the message that could be given. Also to protect young people, there is no one who cares about the situation, but it is normal that it costs them more because it is not easy to sit here and talk about these issues in front of journalists.” “We need to identify with our values, which are values of diversity, tolerance, respect and that is undeniable for all French people. I know that there are many young people who say yes, but that one vote will not change anything, on the contrary, every vote counts. I really hope that we make the right decision and I hope that we continue to be proud to wear this shirt,” Mbappé continued. Asked if his teammate Marcus Thuram had gone too far when he spoke out against Le Pen’s party on Saturday, Mbappé reinforced the position of one of his best friends: “He spoke about values, diversity, tolerance, respect . Of course I’m with him. To me, he didn’t go too far. I think we are still in a country where there is freedom of expression and he gave his opinion and I agree with him.” You can follow The USA Print in Facebook ...

My analyse and views regarding the Elections to the French Parliament after the first round on June 30, on #KANEnglish The most important now is to try to block RN, Marin le Pen Party form receiving 289 seats on the second round which will take place on July 7. And this in order not to allow her political party to be the biggest one in the French Parliament, which enable her to nominate a Prime Minster form her party. ( Because the Party which receives minimum of 289 seats and more is the one who may rule). Amongst other topics, we discussed the reasons for the rase of extreme Right and Left in France We discussed the different scenarios which might come out from the second-round results. As well as the number of abstentions on July 7, which might be a factor as well on the results. The fact is that France is in chaos since the moment that President Macron call for new elections for the French Parliament, a chaos which is increasing from day to day , And it's not sure that the final results on July 7 will calm it.

Most sensible people are breathing a sigh of relief this morning given the weaker performance of French far- right political parties than the electoral polls there had forecast. While the resilience of French liberal values and democratic culture are definitely worth celebrating, it would be foolish for a general sense of complacency to kick in. The rise of far- right political forces across Europe over the past decade or more is a matter of very deep concern. Given the current vulnerabilities in the global economy ( inflation etc) a sharp economic shock internationally could drive voters into the arms of populist far- right parties. The political landscape of Europe could quickly lurch to the extreme right in such circumstance. There is a need for the European Union to take this growing risk extremely seriously and to adopt a strategic approach to countering the longer- term threat posed by far- right political forces across Europe. The necessary resources, expertise and capacities exist with the European Union to mount a comprehensive and strategically planned counter- offensive to the darker political forces in Europe that will only be further emboldened by the likely election of Donald Trump as US President in November this year. Let’s hope that those in leading positions within the EU are already thinking about a major European mobilisation to defend democracy and human rights at home and abroad, and to respond to the growing range of threats posed by the far- right! #frenchelectionresults #frenchfarrightparties #democracyineurope #defendingdemocracy #riseoffarrightineurope

https://lnkd.in/ePVM3GGi With about 3 weeks to go until the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. Marine Le Pen's National Rally party are continuing to make unprecedented gains. Last weekend saw violent protests by the far left as a reaction to the rise of the far right. With France about to host the games the country remains in political turmoil and as many as 90 other protests across the country will take place over the same period between now and the opening ceremony. If you or your organisation are travelling to Paris for the Olympics, this a higher risk profile than normal for a major European country. Getting the right #intelligence and #travelrisk reporting in place will be critical to ensuring duty of care. While the French National Football Team might be due to play Belgium later today as part of Euro 2024, so far is has been the political landscape which has provided the arguably more exciting competition. The French football team limped to second place in their group, scoring just two goals in three games. In contrast the election first round saw its highest turnout of voters since the 1990s, as three ideologically opposed parties battle it out for the 577 seats that are up for grabs. Marine Le Pen’s right wing National Rally (RN) looks to have triumphed in this round, winning around a third of all votes. A left-wing alliance, the New Popular Front, won 28% of the vote, while Macron’s Party came in third, with just over 20%. A second round will now take place for candidates who won between 12.5% and 50% of the votes in their constituency. With the majority of seats likely still up for grabs between the three main parties, there is room for discussions between Macron’s Ensemble party and the New Popular Front on potential deals to prevent an RN outright majority. #euros #elections #financialmarkets #financialadvice

The elections are coming... As someone who has always been passionate about politics, even not being yet able to participate in the German elections, I try to understand the political game here. A really nice tool that I use is the 'Wahl-O-Mat'. The Wahl-O-Mat is a platform where all political parties competing in the upcoming election have responded to a set of statements or theses. These statements cover a wide range of political issues, from healthcare and education to the environment and social welfare. By tring it, you have the opportunity to compare your own beliefs and positions with those of the political parties in the race. It's crucial to note that the Wahl-O-Mat is not a tool that provides explicit voting recommendations. Instead, it serves as an invaluable source of information about the various political parties and their stances on key issues. This non-partisan approach empowers voters to make well-informed choices aligned with their values and priorities. So, as we approach the elections for the Bavarian government, I encourage you to explore the Wahl-O-Mat, whether you're a seasoned political enthusiast or just beginning your journey into the world of politics. Let's all play our part in shaping the political landscape of our adopted home in Germany. The Wahl-O-Mat is available now for states of Bavaria and Hesse at: https://www.wahl-o-mat.de/ #BavariaElections #WahlOMat #InformedVoting

Experts, pundits and consultants all have a role to play. Our reliance on what they say and then how we act can often shape how business, society and even sport can be seen to operate. The reality of decision making reflecting such views or ignoring them should mean care is needed in who we listen to and how we act. Last weekend the odds were 8 to 1 for Man Utd to win the FA cup with Man City the overwhelming favourites. In 1992 Labour was destined to win the general election yet it did not happen. The odds on England winning the Euros is 3 to 1 yet for conservatives to win an overall majority is 20 to 1. The people who set the odds maybe experts yet as history tells us they do not always get it right. Other factors influence outcomes. Whether in business, sport or elections outcomes depend on many factors. Reducing the variables to give greater certainty is clearly fundamental. Getting the best possible advice available and affordable before action is essential. In sport it may be an error or a moment of inspiration and perhaps elections could be the same when the odds of one outcome change. 1966 World Cup final and 1992 elections give some illustration of this. Time will tell this year whether we witness anything similar!
