A lot of must read insights in this report from Wednesday’s Power + Utilities in Melbourne where regular correspondents Riccardo Pagliarella, PhD and Laura Jones held the floor! There’s a lot of people trying to work out how to make money out of V2G — that’s people who are NOT the owners. Perversely EV owners want a car that’s cheaper to operate/own than an ICEV and any “utility” that might deliver further savings through V2H or a bit of earnings from “passive ride share” V2G ; ) The rise and rise of big and bigger batteries is going to make aggregation a difficult space … all the more difficult if Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) continues to insist on their Command & Control ideologies BTM! That’s not to say there’s no utility and opportunities… but they might be more consumer centric than “people” expect or want! A V2G virtual power plant is operational at Flinders University. https://esdnews.com.au/v2g-virtual-power-plant-begins-operation-at flinders-university/ ENERGIE Australia and NZ and Sunverge have partnered with Flinders University in a program to investigate the University's Business fleet electrification, microgrid operations and wholesale market participation. It is incorporating the multiple constraints to the charge system while providing adequate operational charge for daily driving. The project demonstrates how EV's can be harnessed to support South Australia's energy system during peak demands. A successful V2G has been running for more than 5 years in a parking lot of the municipal water and gas utility in the Danish municipality of Frederiksberg. There are also more than 115 V2X (vehicle to everything) and V2G projects which are ongoing or completed across 25 countries. California, the EV adoption and clean energy leader in the US., is evaluating legislation to mandate bidirectional V2G charging capabilities for all EVs and EV charging equipment sold in the State after Jan 1, 2027. As EV ownership ramps up, there will be plenty of V2G projects to copy and paste. Australia does not have to invent the wheel.
Thanks for sharing. We will see what Renault will propose concretely in the next months… Manfred Przybilla

2moAh, V2G. Reminds me of Bitcoin mining a few years back, but probably not as profitable. Tim, your comment remind me of something I wrote in 2022 - https://medium.com/@matmbl/the-benign-energy-dictatorship-76f17599d3 😁
