OpenAI's Sam Altman and Thrive Global's Arianna Huffington wrote an Op-Ed in TIME announcing the creation of Thrive AI Health, a hyper-personalized AI health coach focused on daily behavior recommendations to combat chronic diseases. The "collective effort" they emphasize that will ultimately lead to "reverse the trend lines on chronic diseases" will not only encompass the medical innovation and insights aggregated from decades of research, but also the economic impact that a more transparent pricing structure will bring to patients. By committing to affordability and accessibility in healthcare, we can alleviate the financial burdens not just on patients but also on American society as a whole. https://lnkd.in/gnSfAzc5

A hyper-personalized AI health coach that changes daily habits to improve long-term health. That’s the new venture by Sam Altman and Arianna Huffington, named ThriveAI Health 🚀 According to the World Health Organization, over 50% of our health is determined by our lifestyle and behaviour. Improve lifestyle = improve health. Sam, Arianna Huffington this is a GREAT IDEA 💡 We already did that at Dr.Feel® with a Health Manager via chat backed by a physician via video when needed, gaining over 150.000 users in only 6 months. But we strongly believe that the experience and the human touch of medical professionals is key for a high quality patient experience. We use AI to improve the experience, support the operations and manage data but we keep focus on human interactions to make it to the next level.

To all of you who don't believe behavioural change can work for the benefit of consumers, patients, providers and payers, please read this article. "AI-Driven Behaviour Change Could Transform Health Care" by Arianna Huffington and Sam Altman from OpenAI. "A staggering 129 million Americans have at least one major chronic disease—and 90% of our $4.1 trillion in annual health care spending goes toward treating these physical and mental-health conditions. That financial and personal toll is only projected to grow. We know this is unsustainable. But there are solutions, because health outcomes are shaped by more than just medical care or genes. Behavior change can be a miracle drug, both for preventing disease and for optimizing the treatment of disease. Yes, behavior change is hard. But through hyper-personalization, it’s also something that AI is uniquely positioned to solve." #AI #behaviourchange #behaviourscience #behaviourhealth #healthcare #digitalhealth #digitaltherapeutics P.S. I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment in this article by Arianna Huffington and Sam Altman to harness the power of AI to help develop customized care plans for billions. However, without the right training data, the advice is likely to fall flat, feel generic, and follow an outdated standard of care. At Longevity Health we are addressing this by building our own data-set grounded in a medicine 3.0 longevity mindset focused on prevention. Additionally, longevity enthusiasts are unique in that they are generally healthy and willing to share health data in exchange for a more customized, personal plan. This is the essence of our strategy. I look forward to seeing Thrive AI Health grow and thrive. I believe strongly this is the future and can improve the lives of billions. https://lnkd.in/g3U57nzZ

The article from TIME discusses how AI-driven behavior change could revolutionize healthcare, particularly in addressing chronic diseases. In the US, 129 million people suffer from at least one chronic condition, accounting for 90% of the $4.1 trillion annual healthcare expenditure. AI, through hyper-personalization, is uniquely positioned to help modify behaviors and improve health outcomes. Thrive AI Health, supported by the OpenAI Startup Fund and Thrive Global, is developing an AI health coach that will provide tailored recommendations based on individual data. This personalized approach could help manage conditions like diabetes by offering timely reminders, suggesting nutritious meals, and encouraging physical activity. Unlike generic health recommendations, the AI coach would provide precise, individualized suggestions. The author argues that AI-driven health coaching could democratize access to personalized health advice, potentially reducing disparities in health outcomes. It also emphasizes the importance of addressing mental and emotional health alongside physical well-being. The piece concludes by calling for collaboration between policymakers, healthcare providers, and individuals to realize the potential of AI in healthcare while ensuring privacy and safety standards are maintained. https://lnkd.in/eZV5YeN9 #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #healthcareit #healthcareai #ai #genai #generativeai #ChatGPT #llm #bigdata #ml #AccessToCare #PatientEngagement

“AI Driven Behavior Change Could Transform Health Care” is a more jargony, salesman way of saying “Information can be health and medicine”. ✅The article is solid on some themes. It’s cool to see big players putting more horses in the race. ❌It would’ve been timely and refreshing for it to acknowledge some of the measurement difficulties, particularly around diet and physical activity (our two biggest levers of change in this context). Reliable and accurate measurement is hard. It takes time. We don’t have good tools for the full complexity of dietary exposures. Self report tools such as recalls offer arguably the most balanced level of detail and accuracy, plus they provide food level preferences to build recommendations around. But food reporting isn’t “cool” or new and self report has (correctable?) biases for some dietary factors. The #FRESH Food Recommendations for Equitable, Sustainable Health Platform is building AI-driven behavior change tools. We build them for health conditions, around clinical evidence for various dietary patterns, user food diaries (preferences), and integrate them with predictive analytics to provide future health assessments aligned with the users choices. As a bonus, the Bayesian and other models used in FRESH also offer patented insights into the uncertainty of health recommendations and health status, which is an emerging feature of behavior change frameworks. #Information can be medicine…. IF we can be humble enough to think more fully through the nuances of what it takes to provide accurate, meaningful recommendations. #information #behaviorchange #health #FRESH

Very interesting insights from Sam Altman and Arianna Huffington that puts the US #healthcare challenge and opportunity in perspective. A staggering 129 million Americans have at least one major chronic disease—and 90% of our $4.1 trillion in annual health care spending goes toward treating these physical and mental-health conditions. While there are solutions, we need to recognize that health outcomes are shaped by more than just medical care or genes. Behavior change is critical tool. But behavior change is hard. Trying to connect the missing dots of global health at Endless. Writes on Substack about #AI #SocialImpact #Entrepreneurship #HealthSystems #DigitalHealth
Excited to see the first high profile attempt to use AI for more than marginal improvements in efficiency or replace mundane tasks - and tackling the important issue of self-care and healthy behavior change. As I have talked about repeatedly over the past 1.5 years, this has the potential to change health systems from the ground up. However, I also believe that this requires a fundamental reimagining of how we store and manage health data, and hand over power and control to people in the literal sense. I need to own my data, and give piecemeal/timebound access to my data, to such AIs and my health providers, if I am going to be comfortable handing it over to the likes of OpenAI and Google. Also, in the US this will be limited to non-clinical behavior change. In many parts of the world, where access to physicians is non-existent, this could be the only lifeline to any sort of quality care. There is a real opportunity in front of these low-resource health systems to leapfrog to the 21st century and skip all of the legacy infrastructure and perverse incentives and outdated legal frameworks that hold back Western countries from truly investing in re-envisioning people-centered healthcare. https://lnkd.in/exxeVQYf #SamA OpenAI Arianna Huffington Thrive Global
