Summer Internships
Last week, Provident’s 2023 Summer Interns concluded their time with us with a presentation of their summer project and how they developed during their internship. Each intern presented for 10 – 20 minutes and did a great job explaining their work and how they grew. Weaved throughout the presentation was this concept that the work they did was worthwhile and that their contribution positively impacted their team. They all also mentioned at least 2 of our 3 pillars of Listen, Get Better, and Do What’s Right.
During our post-presentation lunch, one of our interns asked how important leadership is to the organization. This question prompted a longer discussion about culture, CEOs, Leadership Teams, and their importance when looking for their first job post-college.
The first job out of college can define your career trajectory, and finding the right fit is important. We discussed asking questions about culture and leadership during an interview, as well as researching information wherever possible. One great resource is looking at postings on LinkedIn to get a feel for what the company is saying about itself. Another resource is Glassdoor to find out what current and past employees say about working for the company. Compare the company in key areas such as Culture & Values, CEO Approval, and Willingness to Refer a Friend. If you find a company that excels in these areas compared to other companies in your work search, you should focus on employment with the higher scoring organizations.
