What makes you happy? For me, ultimately, it’s the smile on my wife’s face. It keeps me motivated, keeps me feeling safe, when things aren’t going so well. My daughter. My fur babies. The satisfaction of working for a company who, rather than setting targets, celebrate your successes. That success could be a meeting with a potential reseller, or even a good conversation with a new contact. What is it you believe in? Get better at that. What is it you work for? Get better at that! What is it you’re dreaming about and hoping for? Get better at that. What you do for a living should be a reflection of your heart. Joy in •YOUR work is about being connected with what you do and why you do it. You #belong to it. It's when you wake up in the morning and •KNOW• the feeling of success and fulfillment comes to •YOU from doing work that matters. Having #joyatwork connects ME with my colleagues and HCP’s amd their patients through a sense of shared purpose. The path to creating & cultivating #joy in YOUR corporation could require a #chiefjoyofficer to share: 🌟hiring for attributes NOT skills 🌟infusing their core values into their work, 🌟sharing their new ideas, 🌟surrounding them with joyful people, 🌟making time for them to share laughter, 🌟and embracing them in belonging. Yes - it •is• different We get to #choosejoy

*Lollipop Moment* I was introduced to this wonderful concept of a 'Lollipop Moment' by an amazing speaker at a conference I attended recently. A lollipop moment simply put is when you do or say something nice for someone even a stranger or when you acknowledge something nice done for you or said about you. The Speaker then made us say something nice to 4 people attending the conference & sitting next to us or in the rows behind or in front of us. The energy transformation in the room was to be seen to be believed & suddenly everyone was feeling good & better and more friendly with the co attendees. He then encouraged all present to adopt this practise in our daily life and see for ourselves the difference it makes in our attitude & the way we approach life. I was immediately reminded of this wonderful quote by Mary Angelou, 'I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.' Everybody has a life-defining moment that came about as a result of someone doing something really tiny. Sometimes that person might not even know the ultimate effect of this one little thing that they did. Something simple like smiling at a complete stranger, for example. We have all experienced 'Lollipop moments' in our life, it may be a kind word from a stranger or a compliment from a respected “teacher” in our lives that helped build our inner strength. Whether you are a good friend, a consumer, or a parent, A lollipop moment could be part of your landscape every day. And this could be a “game-changer” for you and those around you. The world would be a better place if we made sure to thank people when they’ve said something that fundamentally made our lives better, and when possible, we should look for a reason to lead by saying or doing something special in the small moments of life. There are two parts to this equation: Firstly, we should be making the most of opportunities to speak up, to say heartfelt things that might have a huge impact on others, even strangers! Secondly, are we telling those people who had that kind of impact on us that we are so amazingly grateful? Create a 'Lollipop Moment' - do something nice or thank someone for something nice done for you & stay blessed forever.

The better measure to success is in what a person values. I’ll take the 2nd pie chart and focus on that when looking how far I’ve come and where I want to see my future.

Measuring success can be difficult, especially when it comes to mental health and well-being. However, setting specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely goals can help us achieve a sense of achievement and progress. Success doesn't have to be tied to productivity or output. In fact, well-being comes from tending to our physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual health. When measuring success, it's important to look beyond just our professional lives. Being "rich" can mean living a life of well-being, rather than just a life of well-doing. Spending quality time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies and interests, taking care of our physical health, and engaging in activities that bring us joy and fulfillment can all contribute to a fulfilling life. Ultimately, success is subjective and unique to each individual. It's important to define success for ourselves and not compare our journey to others. By setting realistic goals, tending to our well-being, and living a balanced life, we can achieve a sense of fulfillment and success that is authentic to us. #success #wellbeing #goals #selfcare

Our working life is there to support our private lives - not the other way round. Seeing it like this image is so much clearer, don't you think. Mental health and wellbeing is all that counts - and yes, having work you love and sufficient income is part of that, but work is not all there is to life. As an academic life coach, I open the floor for the individual to define what success means to them. I also remind myself and my students I can change my definition at any time and make sure the inner critic is not keeping me from measuring up to my definition. I’m actually a little weary of the whole concept of success and consider it to be this western construct based on capitalistic values. How about success as a state of being rather than doing? Success includes acceptance of detours and learning opportunities. Asking for help and just asking lots of questions everyday!
