ARI Athletics & the demographic cliff: Four years ago ARI Athletics was still just a vague idea. Luke Lechner and Dan Tudor would grab coffee and talk through the problems that coaches and admins faced with recruiting and enrollment. Now more than ever, institutions are experiencing these challenges - or worse, they're closing altogether. Between March 2020 and now, 42 colleges closed their doors for good... and my heart goes out to all of the students and faculty from Alderson Broaddus University who heard that news today. It is becoming more and more important to find streamlined ways to combat these challenges. In the early stages of ARI Athletics, Co-founders Gray and Luke interviewed over 250 coaches and admins and identified some of the ground floor issues. Coaches found recruiting to be challenging; they didn't want to learn a complicated system that was dropped in their lap; they were bogged down trying to navigate multiple systems; they often times had no idea what was going on in admissions; and admissions had no idea what was going on in athletics. Athletics is a key piece to the enrollment puzzle and more often than not, siloed. The solution: Build an easy-to-use, customizable recruiting system with coaches' ideas at the forefront of development with the ability to connect to admissions. Simple as that! Ben Pickrell and Erin Cassell joined the ARI team early on with a unique and impressive set of skills that helped drive ARI's success. Because of their expertise, ARI offers the first and only real-time integration between an athletic solution and the leading admissions system, Slate (Technolutions). And what do you know, it's an integration that actually works. "When we started using ARI we saw over an 80% increase in the number of prospective student athletes that our coaches were prospecting and sharing with admissions. It has entirely changed the way we work with athletics to drive enrollment." -Morgan Ryba, Director of Admissions Information Systems at The University of Dallas "ARI is the 5th platform we've used, and it's the one we were looking for." -Steve Peed, Athletic Director at Maine Maritime Academy Now over 1000 coaches and admins at 142 institutions are using ARI to make their lives easier and to meet their enrollment goals - and you can too! #ARIathletics #slate #technolutions #buildyourpowerhouse

Understanding the NCAA Transfer Portal: What Players and Parents Need to Know Spring transfer portal eve has arrived, marking the beginning of one of the most dynamic periods in college football. On Tuesday morning, the 15-day transfer window opens, offering new opportunities and challenges for athletes navigating their college careers. Key Points for Athletes and Parents: Window Duration: This spring's transfer window lasts for 15 days, providing a brief yet critical period for decision-making. Current Landscape: As of now, 2,618 players have entered the transfer portal since August, with projections suggesting this number could rise to 3,000 by the end of the month. Athletes entering the portal during this window do not need to commit by May 1, when the portal closes, allowing some flexibility in their decisions. NIL Negotiations: This window is unique due to the allowance of booster-funded NIL collectives to openly negotiate with athletes. This new element introduces a layer of complexity and opportunity in the transfer process. Immediate Eligibility: Multi-time transfers now have the chance to enter the portal and play immediately in the next season, bypassing the previous requirement of sitting out for a year or obtaining a waiver. Strategic Considerations: Market Dynamics: The quarterback market is reportedly less active compared to the winter, while positions such as running backs, linemen, and defensive backs see higher demand. Institutional Strategy: Coaches and programs are also strategically navigating this period to optimize their rosters, often using the portal to unload players and free up scholarship slots. What is the NCAA Transfer Portal? Launched in 2018, the NCAA Transfer Portal allows athletes to declare their intent to explore other institutions transparently, giving schools 48 hours to list an athlete's name in the portal after notification. This tool is designed to give athletes control over their athletic journey, with the flexibility to make informed decisions without immediate pressure. Future Considerations: Legislative Changes. The NCAA's Division I Council is set to meet on April 17-18, potentially adopting emergency legislation that could allow all undergraduate athletes to transfer and play immediately if they meet certain academic standards. For athletes considering a transfer, this period requires careful strategic planning and understanding of the new rules. Parents, athletes, and coaches need to stay informed and prepared to make the best decisions under these evolving circumstances. Stay connected, stay informed, and make the choices that best suit your athletic and academic goals. 🏀🎓 The landscape of college sports is evolving, and with it, the role of NCAA parents in the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) era. As a former college athlete and now a parent of a collegiate student, I've seen firsthand the seismic shift in how parents navigate this new terrain. The introduction of NIL has been a game-changer, offering student-athletes unprecedented opportunities to leverage their personal brand. But what does this mean for their parents, the unsung heroes in their journey? 🌟 Empowerment, Not Oversight 🌟 Parents are often the first agents their children have, negotiating the tricky balance between support and independence. In the NIL era, this role becomes even more nuanced. It's not just about cheering from the sidelines anymore; it's about understanding branding, marketing, and legalities. 📈 Industry Insights 📈 The NIL deals in 2023 alone have shown that there's real financial potential here. But with great potential comes great responsibility. Parents need to be equipped with the right knowledge to guide their young athletes. This isn't about helicoptering over every decision; it's about empowering them with the right tools and advice. 🤝 Collaboration is Key 🤝 Collaboration between universities, parents, and athletes is crucial. Universities should provide workshops and resources for parents. This isn't just about compliance; it's about creating an ecosystem where student-athletes can thrive both on and off the field. 💡 Personal Experience 💡 When my child signed their first NIL deal, it was uncharted territory for us. We had to quickly learn about contract negotiation, taxes, and brand alignment. It was a steep learning curve, but it brought us closer. We learned to communicate better and respect each other's perspectives. 🐘 Avoiding the 'Herd of Elephants' Syndrome 🐘 Treating NCAA parents like a 'herd of elephants' in their travel to campus is wrong; cumbersome and hard to navigate around, is a mistake. Parents can be allies in this journey, not obstacles. 🔍 Looking Ahead 🔍 As we move forward, let's shift our perspective. Let's see parents as valuable contributors to the NIL conversation. Their insights, born from years of supporting their athlete, are invaluable. 📣 Your Thoughts? 📣 Have you navigated the NIL landscape as a parent, athlete, or industry professional? What challenges have you faced? What successes have you celebrated? Share your stories below! #NIL #NCAA #CollegeSports #ParentingInSports #AthleteBrand #SportsMarketing

The impact of conference realignment from a student-athlete academic perspective. #collegeathletes #ncaa #big12 #big10 #pac12 #ucf #studentathletes #travel #timezone #fastcompany Realignment will compound the “only so many hours in a day” problem for student athletes. Air travel has long been a fact of life (Pac-12 schools aren’t particularly close to one another by the standards of the Midwest or the Southeast), but it’s about to get worse. The Big Ten now spans three time zones, meaning that students need to navigate onerous time differences between the coasts. A flight from Seattle to Columbus isn’t that much longer than the Seattle to Los Angeles leg, but the time zone change makes it more physically demanding. https://lnkd.in/ejCDBCiX

🤝 Trust in the value of higher education is definitely failing. 💰Costs keep going up, and in many cases, the quality of your education goes down because many institutions are cost cutting by only hiring adjunct professors instead of full-time faculty. Relationship building is at an all time low between students and university staff who are worked to the bone to retain what students they can. What if there was a better alternative? What if universities leaned into the future of education with esports? 📈 What if esports could raise retention rates across campus and not just provide for a singular athletic program? Using esports to elevate the value of education and to send students confidently out into a world that is rapidly shifting can provide a way for institutions to revitalize their campuses. Rather than providing a subpar education and college experience, elevate it with esports. Be that linchpin for a burgeoning new world. Help prepare your students to thrive in these new careers instead of taking a back seat. #esports #highered #studentengagement #retention #education
