In personal relationships, it means showing love, care, and respect consistently, being there for friends and family during difficult times, and building trust by keeping promises and being reliable. In professional settings, it involves demonstrating commitment and competence through the quality and timeliness of work, leading by example with integrity, humility, and dedication, and being a team player who supports and uplifts colleagues. For personal growth, it encompasses taking tangible steps towards self-improvement, such as learning new skills or adopting healthier habits, showing resilience in the face of challenges, and holding oneself accountable for actions and learning from mistakes. Overall, letting actions speak builds credibility and trust, as people are more likely to believe and respect those who consistently back their words with deeds. It helps strengthen consistency and show love, care, and respect consistently to your loved ones. It makes people supportive.

💥CONFLICT💥 What stories are you telling yourself?* When fear, conflict, or both arise one method of protecting ourselves is to tell ourselves stories about what we believe to be true. Some of the stories can be born out of past experiences that looked and felt the same way, some can be what we believe we would do in that same situation, and some can be a result of our biggest fear. Regardless of the reason, these stories can feel very real. So real in fact, that regardless of what we see or are told, we go with the story in our head instead. Stories in our head can take flight and cause reactions from us about fictional situations. I’m not sure about you, but I create some excellent stories up in my head–making counterpoints, believing I already know what their points will be, and getting to end with the correct verdict. As I said, they can feel and taste so real that they almost shock us into our response. It took me many years to start asking myself and others “is this a story I made up?” Giving my friends permission to tell me that I have made up the story in my mind has been one of the kindest things I have done for myself, because it takes it out of my head and moves it out in the open. It has allowed me to be honest about what I am thinking and feeling with those I love and trust them to help me work through my thoughts and how they have been affecting me. Also, asking those close to you if it is just a story in your head can also potentially confirm the truth of it so you don’t feel alone in your thoughts and start taking action if needed. Regardless, I invite you to start asking yourself if this is a story you are telling yourself when you notice you’re making assumptions or having conversations with others in your head. Get out of your head and into the present. It’s best not to ruminate and make decisions from the story you are working with when it’s strictly from your head. *As with any topic I muse about, we are always centering identity and power dynamics that can be at play in the situation. We must never think that all things, people, identities, or experiences are identical. P.S. How do you test your beliefs? 3 Ways to Challenge Your Thinking -- 1️⃣ Read the newspaper of your alma mater or local university. 👉 Identify issues affecting a different generation. 👉 Get exposed to diverging perspectives on local and global issues. 2️⃣ Be somewhere that you don't know the language. 👉 Recognize losing a major factor of understanding the world. 👉 Understand the vulnerability of trusting another to advocate for you. 3️⃣ Seek counterpoints to a point you feel passionate about. 👉 Identify sources of rationale that make the opposing view valid. 👉 Inquire about how your view impacts someone else's daily life. I recently experienced an unforgettable moment in my life. One that I wish I could bottle up to cherish forever. While I’ve figured out how to allow my emotions to come through on stage and talking through anything that comes up, this time was different. I didn’t completely lose it, but I had to stop talking two times because it was so overwhelming. In the past, I would have felt embarrassed about it. And full disclosure, I would have ended that call and beat myself up with regret about not being able to control it. But I wasn’t any of that. I was incredibly present and grateful for what was unfolding right before my eyes. I wanted to bottle it up and put it in my pocket, and keep it forever. I was totally overwhelmed at the sheer fact that I was sitting there in this position as a Latina woman who fought hard to get here. I allowed myself to feel my emotions in front of some incredibly important people. And for that, I am proud of myself. For not holding it back in the spirit of “professionalism” but rather leaning into redefining professionalism as I often hear Pabel Martinez talk about. I’m writing to tell you that it is totally professional to feel your emotions in professional settings. It is completely professional to be proud of yourself in whatever way that might look for you.   Whether that’s telling someone about it, writing about it on social media, or jotting it down in your journal.
