We need Girls in Tech, Inc. When xAI began last year, the company had 12 employees—all men. In May, Meta named four execs to sit on their new Tech Advisory Group—all men. In December, OpenAI had four people on its board—all men. Diversity drives innovation. And increases the likelihood that technological advancements will be equitable and inclusive. The lack of women and girls in tech poses very real and significant risks, particularly in the context of generative AI. Girls in Tech, Inc. is an organization that has empowered women and girls around the globe to be agents of change in the tech industry for almost 20 years. I have personally been involved with the organization for 7 years. I know Adriana Gascoigne. I have seen her and her team build a community of more than 110,000 women and girls in 35 communities around the world. I have witnessed the care and compassion with which they create opportunities for women and girls that expand their capabilities and confidence in tech. Now, we need your support. Before co-launching Asian Girls Ignite, I had no idea that this important work could be a full-time opportunity for me. Thanks to the Moonshot edVentures Fellowship, Colorado Asian American and Pacific Islander girls and gender-expansive youth have access to a space where they feel seen, heard, acknowledged, empowered, and united. The work we did in the Fellowship not only helped me fulfill the dream of starting this non-profit, but it also helped me dive deeper into how the identities I hold positively and directly impact my leadership. Moonshot believes that if we invest in a community of local, historically marginalized leaders, and support them to design and launch learning models that look dramatically different and are tailored to meet the needs of students and families, we can transform outcomes for students who are marginalized by our education system. From now until November 10th, Moonshot is running their first ever giving campaign called Funding Our Future. Moonshot has big dreams for not just the organization’s future but that of educators and our students. Your support would help give Moonshot permission and flexibility to support more Fellows, like me, in new ways, experiment with programming, and push the envelope of what’s possible. Many girls in developing countries face challenges of poor access to education, inadequate health care, early marriage and motherhood, domestic violence, and a lack of employment opportunities. There are bold women from these places who are focusing on solutions to spark hope in young girls navigating these circumstances. UPromise100 seeks to fund organizations started by female alumni of the program that I am leading, specifically to fund female-focused programs internationally. The $100,000 raised annually will be used to fund UrbanPromise International programs that seek to support, educate, empower, protect and care for girls and female teenagers. As the year draws to a close, we'd like to extend a final reminder of the impact you make with a tax-deductible donation to OnBoard.
