I've spent most of this year talking to friends, founders, and practitioners about Cloud Security - more specifically, new threat vectors that are emerging, and the subsequent opportunities created for founders in this space. We're all familiar with Wiz's historic growth, and over the last few weeks, we've seen the company accelerate their ambitions of becoming a broader Cloud Security platform. Covering a surface area as large and rapidly-changing as cloud infrastructure is a tremendous task, and while CSPM has proven to be a brilliant start, the market is clearly demanding more. I cover some of these new categories in my post below, and of course, wanted to put everything in the context of what I saw firsthand at Rubrik. Really nice write-up and overview of the space. Wiz did an amazing job of providing visibility and highlighting misconfigurations in a risk prioritized way. The question then becomes, what do we do with the findings? Some try to remediate. Some try to detect. I started Resourcely to offer a way to prevent misconfiguration while simultaneously improving developer velocity. This becomes increasingly urgent once folks start realizing how much misconfiguration they already have and how expensive it is to fix once it's deployed.

I'm a pushover for companies that nail their understanding of their ideal customer, their needs, what they value AND can execute to provide a product to meet the customer where they are. I love how Shayan Shafii at Scale Venture Partners sums it up as: "Rubrik helped companies get off the ground in 2016, and Wiz helped them land correctly in 2020." Wiz and Rubrik aligned their solutions with customers' cloud journeys and delivered services that address the pressing needs of that moment. In doing so, Rubrik and Wiz were able to capitalize on the fast growing market and achieve remarkable success. #Positioning #Startups #valueproposition

Google’s parent, Alphabet Inc. is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire Wiz for approximately $23 billion, per The Wall Street Journal. Wiz offers a comprehensive cloud security solution, analyzing data from various platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud for security risks. The potential acquisition is seen as a strategic move to strengthen Google's cloud business, which experienced a 28% growth to $9.57 billion in the first quarter of this year. With its limited security capability, its likely that Amazon will too follow the course and acquire something soon in peer pressure.
