Curiosity is key to innovation.  And given what is underway with GenAI, there has never been as high a return on curiosity as there is today. GenAI is dramatically reducing the cost of inquiry, so now anyone can perform research, get answers, and run scenarios at a blistering pace and at a fraction of the cost. Those who are curious will drive more effective results and have greater impact — in part because they’re interested enough to ask the questions. The curious — those with the desire to learn and explore — have an ever growing collection of AI-infused enterprise software and standalone GenAI tools at their disposal to upskill themselves, innovate, and contribute to their organizations in ways they’ve never been able to before. How to quantify the upside? We can’t know for certain how big the innovation ripple effect will be, but I think the benefit to companies, communities, and humanity will be profound. When I think about the top traits I’m looking for in employees today, the advantage goes to those who demonstrate curiosity. Those who are willing to try something new, who ask the big questions, and search quickly and thoughtfully, will benefit from the vast power and knowledge that is available to them. They will be the ones to elevate those around them and the enterprises smart enough to hire them.

According to the 2023 Winter NACE (National Association of College and Employers) report, business majors are highly sought after by employers at the bachelor's degree level. Six of the top 10 most in-demand degrees are in the business field, with "Finance" and "Accounting" topping the list. At least 60% of responding employers plan to hire graduates with degrees in Finance, Accounting, and Computer Science. This highlights the continued demand for these skillsets in the job market. As the Class of 2024 prepares to enter the workforce, these statistics are promising for those pursuing careers in these high-demand fields. Excited to share the highlights from the first half of the final day at AACSB's AI Conference! 🌟 The sessions focused on strategic planning best practices, fostering an innovation-driven culture, the evolving role of faculty, and more. AACSB's Hanna A. McLeod kicked off the morning by sharing key takeaways from AACSB's recent report on GenAI (https://lnkd.in/eapvi92a). Alain Goudey from NEOMA Business School followed with inspiring examples of GenAI use cases, emphasizing the importance of unlearning and relearning in the GenAI era. He showcased how an innovation-driven culture empowers faculty, instructional designers, and other internal stakeholders to continually embrace quickly evolving technologies. Johan S Roos outlined the change process that Hult International Business School implemented beginning at the early onset of ChatGPT3, developing a straightforward GenAI policy built on three pillars: embracing GenAI, fostering critical thinking, and ensuring transparency. Dr. Sandeep Krishnamurthy from Cal Poly Pomona College of Business Administration and Inara Scott from Oregon State University College of Business explored ways to empower faculty to embrace GenAI. They discussed the evolving role of faculty and the shift toward active and hands-on learning, and the need for faculty to move beyond the "content is king" mindset.

I am a proud product of public universities and have been a lifetime member of three alumni associations for several years. Within the past three years, I've had the pleasure to serve as a volunteer on the AA Board of Directors for Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) and the Cal Poly Pomona College of Business Administration (CBA) Chapter and it's been a rewarding journey to date. One of the key challenges in AI is creativity — producing ideas that are both novel and useful. As humans, we have an innate ability to connect disparate concepts and synthesize them into something novel. We are able to do this naturally because we store information in an “associative” manner where different concepts are connected with different kinds of links. An “apple” can be connected to “fruit” (thing to category link) and to “red” (thing to property link) and so on. By traversing this giant network in less routine ways, our brain finds ways to combine unrelated ideas in a meaningful way. This associative thinking ability has given us many clever inventions from simple products like a magnetic wristband (magnet + wristband => DIY accessory to hold nails and screws) to big innovations like Google’s PageRank algorithm (academic citations + websites => smarter search engine). And this simple technique of combining two unrelated ideas is a fairly reliable trigger to improve human creativity. But can this technique also boost the creativity of Large Language Models (LLMs)? After all, LLMs also implicitly capture associations between concepts based on the frequency of occurrence of commonly related words. I'm thrilled to share that my collaborators, Aishni Parab and Sumit Gulwani, and I tested the efficacy of associative thinking prompts on v-GPT4 across three domains - product design, storytelling and marketing. We found that by simply asking v-GPT4 to incorporate a random concept the originality of its responses improved by 1.4x in product design, 1.2x in storytelling and 3x in marketing. Overall, our results indicate associative thinking can make LLMs significantly more creative and LLMs can be a useful brainstorming tool even in challenging domains like product design. As an example, v-GPT4 came up with a quirky idea of a transparent pillow with artificial fish, designed to reduce stress in children. What are the potential benefits and drawbacks of such a pillow?
