As February comes to a close, we are continuing to celebrate Black History Month and this year's theme of "African Americans and the Arts." Today, we are remembering the legacy of Ella Fitzgerald, often called "The First Lady of Song." Fitzgerald was a jazz singer who faced much discrimination during her career, but she overcame it to become an international star. She became the first African American to perform at the Los Angeles nightclub Mocambo, effectively opening doors for other Black artists. She was also an advocate for child welfare and disadvantaged youth. #blackhistorymonth #blackexcellence #ellafitzgerald

Excited to celebrate black history month. It is stating the obvious men and women with black or darker brown skin have accomplished a lot and dealt with extreme highs and lows . HR question: 1. Are we celebrating anyone with black skin? 2. How do we know they are black? Is there a specific identifier you are using? I have heard there are certain races that are not part of the black community even though their skin is very dark. 3. Are you throwing parties for black people? Or is that not allowed? 4. How do you fill up a whole month of decorations? Is there specific decorations to use for black history or is it any culture that has been in Africa? #hrcommunity Alex G. Wright, Ph.D.

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in American history. On this day in 1865, freedom was proclaimed to enslaved African Americans in Texas, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is a time for reflection and education and a reminder of the resilience and contributions of the Black community. It is also a call to action for continued progress toward equality and justice. Join us in commemorating Juneteenth by learning about its history and significance. Additionally, this 2021 article by Ella F. Washington and Jasmine Sanders outlines strategies for companies to honor Juneteenth: https://lnkd.in/dqF8_pg. #Juneteenth

Celebrating Black History Month: Unity, Recognition, and Healing 🌟 This Black History Month, let's honor the intertwined histories and shared struggles of the Black and Latino communities 🤝🏾🤝🏽. Our pasts are linked, and our futures are bound together in the quest for justice and equality. We recognize the monumental contributions of the Black community – their resilience, innovations, and spirit have shaped our world 🌍. Yet, we must also confront the ongoing violence and trauma they face, a stark reminder of the work still needed for true equality. At the Healing and Justice Center, we believe in the power of solidarity. "A rising tide lifts all boats," and the healing of the Black community is crucial for a world where everyone thrives 🚀. Black lives matter, not just in words but in the actions we take every day to bridge the racial divide 🖤. Together, let's commit to healing, learning, and growing. For a peaceful world, the path forward is through unity, recognition, and understanding 🕊️. #BlackHistoryMonth #HealingAndJustice #Solidarity #BlackLivesMatter

Commentary: We celebrate Black History Month and the heroic leaders and movements that have advanced racial justice by remembering that the struggle for justice for African Americans is only part of the history of movements for racial justice in this country. Where can Americans find a durable consensus on our domestic security? https://ow.ly/2Wyp50QGtAp

I'm proud that KPMG celebrates #Juneteenth, commemorating the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation and the legal end to slavery. It is a day of celebration, but also sobering reminder of the millions who suffered under slavery and the devastating and dangerous impacts of dehumanization. Tragically, we've not solved for inequality and the practice of slavery is still real and growing, with over 50 million victims of modern slavery worldwide. On this Juneteenth, please join me in: 1. Learning from the freedom fighters of the past, 2. Extending the Golden Rule to all, not just those like you, and 3. Taking practical actions to combat modern slavery. https://lnkd.in/e-P6qW9F #Integrity, #Excellence, #Courage, #Together, #ForBetter, #Freedom
Today, we join the nation in celebrating Juneteenth, a day dedicated to celebrating the freedom and culture of the Black community. As a firm we are encouraging our professionals to find time to reflect on this historic day and embrace unity as we focus on what more can be done to ensure equity for all.

🌟 Bridging underrepresented talent with 🏢 companies eager to diversify their 🏭 workforce! 💪 #InclusionMatters 🌍💼
It's Black History Month, and while taking the time to celebrate the achievements of black individuals, it's important to remember that support for your black colleagues should extend beyond February. You must actively listen, acknowledge their experiences, and take them seriously. It's unfair to make assumptions about their behavior based on YOUR own insecurities. Let's give your black/POC colleagues the support they deserve, not just this month, but every month. Allyship is not meant to be self-serving. #BlackHistoryMonth #DiversityandInclusion
