As i see it, biggest difference between senior and junior dev/manager/designer/etc. is not only amount of knowledge they memorized, but ability to hold more "key frames" of the problem in their operational memory. Not only problem they working on, but the origins and consequences of it. So more "problem blocks" you hold, the more your seniority level is, the more complicated problems you can solve. So i think it related not only to devops, but for any position. Sometimes it's better to hire a person without proper experience in particular domain, but with a sharp mind.
If you are hiring for a Devops engineer, don't hire people based on their memorization skills. Focus more on problem solving skills and how the person connects the dots for a given problem. Time is value in devops role. The faster a production issue can be solved, the better.

Today, we're excited to share a special interview with one of our DevOps engineers, Vlada Zubareva, shedding light on what makes working in this field so uniquely rewarding. 💡🚀 Q: What do you enjoy about your job? A: "What inspires me the most is the variety of tasks and the constant interaction with colleagues. Every day is something new, which allows me to develop both hard and soft skills." 🌈🤝 Q: What are some of the coolest challenges in it? A: "The coolest, yet most challenging part, is the ever-changing technologies. You need to be able to quickly adapt to changes in the industry." 🔄💻 Q: Why should someone come work with us as a DevOps engineer? A: "It's fun and interesting here! We're not just about exciting tasks but also about a wonderful team that always supports and helps each other. Plus, we have cookies and the best coffee." ☕️🍪🎉 Q: What led you to this field, and do you feel comfortable in it? A: "I've always liked technical stuff, so I decided to follow my interests. Working in IT, I feel comfortable because here, what matters are your competencies and abilities, not your gender." 🛠️👩💻 By the way, if you're a DevOps looking for work, check out our open positions: https://lnkd.in/es8Q5r46

Hey folks 😄 Many of my relatives used to ask me, "What's your job role?" And when I tell them I'm a DevOps Engineer, they're like, "Huh? What's that?" 🤷♂️ Has this ever happened to you too? If yes, then comment below. So, here's the story I tell them—and now you can share it with your friends and relatives too! 😅 Imagine a world where software development and operations are like two sides of a coin – they need each other, but they also have their quirks. 🤓 That's where DevOps comes in, like a dynamic duo bringing order to the chaos of code! 💥 It's like having Batman and Robin work together to save the day – but instead of fighting crime, they're slaying bugs and deploying apps! 🦇💻 So, the next time someone asks you, "What's DevOps?" you can hit 'em with this epic tale and watch their minds get blown! 🤯 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝘆, 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗢𝗽𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄-𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆, 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄! A good worker is nothing without their tools, so the saying goes. DevOps engineers rely on a set of software packages day in, day out for them to do their job effectively. If you’re looking at hiring a DevOps engineer or DevOps team, it’s therefore super important to factor this cost into your investment 📈

Are you seeing a lot of "DevOps Engineer" positions being advertised? You're not alone. But wait, isn't DevOps supposed to be a cultural mindset rather than a specific role? So many companies are still missing the point and are on the wrong track! Let's focus on cultivating a DevOps culture rather than just hiring for a job title. #DevOps #CompanyCulture #Hiring

⭐ So we had a position for a Senior DevOps. Opened the job offer in LI, had a HeadHunter working in paralel. We have a straight forward process - 1 test with 14 questions ( with multiple choice or fill the blanks), the hired candidate finished in 18 minutes. - 1 interview with me or one of the managers + a devops - If you pass the offer Simple process. We had 925 applicants, we filtered to 31 candidates. I sent the test to all of them, here are the result - 4 passed with more than 50% - 8 failed, 2 of them with 0% - 19 didn't even took the test - No one that took the test invested more than 29 minutes to do it. Now comes the question, the position is real and solid, in a good company with good ratings, working full remote, flexible hours, great feedback from employees and a good salary. What is hapenning that people are simply quitting interview? Lack of confidence? Lack of knowledge? Fear of a test? Same happens to Developers and other positions. Is this a trend? What is the reason? By the way, we hired... and the guy is great!

I read the opening to a job ad for a DevOps Engineer this morning and had to drop what I was doing to turn it into this meme. Tone of voice is so important in your adverts. It's a reflection of your workplace, your culture and what you're looking for. Do you want your advert to make you sound like an aggressive, overpaid footballer shouting at a 60-year-old man? Will that attract the kind of motivated, high-performing and impactful people you want? Or will it make you come across as a bunch of d***s? Have a look at how your recruiters are advertising your jobs. Then have a look at how we do it. I'll leave a link in the comments.

In the world of recruiting, things change constantly! From opening and closing positions to changing job requirements, if you recruit long enough, you will see it all! One of our past clients initially thought they needed two software engineers. We recruited for the open position and found multiple qualified candidates to show them, and they ended up hiring 2 of the people we sent their way! After about three weeks, one of the hired people placed their 2-week notice. After having someone in the seat, they realized they did not need two software engineers. They need one software and one DevOps engineer. We began recruiting for the back-fill DevOps position and successfully hired that position for them! One of the benefits of using Recruiting Experiences as your fraction recruiting firm is we are flexible to change with changing requirements. We can quickly pivot and provide value where you need it most. Reach out in the comments to learn how we can fit into your recruiting strategy.
