The NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists recognized Nexstar’s KXAN Investigates with three 2024 Excellence in Journalism Awards. KXAN’s “OutLaw: A Half-Century Criminalizing LGBTQ+ Texans” received the special recognition Al Neuharth Award for Innovation in Investigative Journalism, as well as the Excellence in Multimedia Award in Digital, and the Excellence in Documentary Award in Broadcasting. Through vast video and audio archive research, and extensive case analysis, KXAN Investigates explored the record number of bills filed at the Texas State Capitol in 2023 impacting the LGBTQ+ community, including why a controversial law aimed at criminalizing the LGBTQ+ community has been in Texas’ Penal Code for 50 years. Nexstar is pleased to announce the promotion of two experienced broadcast leaders and current Nexstar executives to VP and General Manager.   Olivia Pennington will assume responsibility for WHNT News 19 and WHDF-TV, in Huntsville, AL.    Britt Milstead will lead KLBK-TV in Lubbock, TX, and will oversee Nexstar’s operating agreements with Mission Broadcasting, Inc., related to KAMC-TV.   Collectively, Ms. Pennington and Mr. Milstead have more than 40 years of broadcast leadership experience, and each is extremely familiar with Nexstar’s media operations.
