Sponsors like the THE ALBERTSONS COMPANIES FOUNDATION play a crucial role in making MDA Summer Camp possible, providing national fundraising and engaging in local camp activities. Their support brings unforgettable adventures to campers across the country. Through their 'Boost Their Abilities' campaign, a national fundraising endeavor that includes pin-up and round-up campaigns throughout their grocery stores, The Albertsons Companies Foundation raised and donated more than one million dollars for MDA Summer Camp last year! But their commitment to camp didn’t stop on the dollar, as their teams from local divisions visited MDA Summer Camps to provide snacks, dinner spreads, ice cream socials, supplies, activities, manpower, and more. Partner programs not only benefit campers, but they can also see first-hand the impact of partnership with Muscular Dystrophy Association. “I’ve attended summer camps all around the country. They are memorable experiences where the kids can just be kids,” says Christy Duncan Anderson, the President and Executive Director at Albertsons Companies Foundation. “One year, I spent the day helping children get ready for a dance by making paper ties for them to wear. Each tie was designed to share the camper’s personality, and I helped make ties with everything from #Lego designs to one that was completely covered in googly eyes. Spending the time with the campers and getting to know them individually has always been a highlight of my summer.” Read more about their impact in this #QuestBlog. #MDA #SummerCamp #FundraisingPartnership

Washtenaw Camp Placement began tracking our campership numbers in 1962 when we officially launched our program. That year, we granted 114 camperships to residential camps. By 1964, the number had increased to 131 campers, and we were sending them to 20 different camps. However, by 1965, our referrals had surged to 365, with a significant number of children unable to attend camp due to financial constraints. Today, we continue to place an average of 150 campers every year, totaling over 10,000 camperships since 1962. Despite our success, one of our biggest challenges remains unchanged: the need to raise additional funds to send more children to camp. A campership holds immense importance for a child. Families of these children cannot afford the tuition, transportation, or camping gear required for summer camp attendance. Without WCP, many of these children would miss out on the transformative experience of sleepaway summer camp. The loss of this opportunity goes beyond what one might expect; it denies children the chance to engage in activities such as sailing, swimming, horseback riding, or making s'mores alongside their peers who are not on scholarship. At camp, they are given experiences that their families would not otherwise be able to provide, experiences that will shape their future. They will gain independence, confidence, and self-esteem—qualities that are crucial for their development. These kids need to go to camp. Spring break is here, and it’s the perfect time for kids to enjoy not just a break from school, but also an opportunity to give back and help others. Here at Brighton Our World, we believe every moment is a chance to make a positive impact, and spring break is no exception. Here are some inspiring ways kids can use their spare time to spread kindness and support their communities: Neighborhood Cleanup: Gather friends and family for a neighborhood cleanup day. It’s a fun way to enjoy the outdoors and take care of our environment. Crafts for a Cause: Spend some time creating handmade cards, decorations, or small gifts to distribute at local nursing homes, hospitals, or shelters. A little creativity can bring a lot of joy. Book Drive: Organize a book drive in your community. Collecting books for local libraries, schools, or children’s hospitals can help promote literacy and bring stories to those who need them most. Garden for Good: Start a small community garden or help out in an existing one. Donating the produce to local food banks can help provide fresh, healthy options for families in need. Walk for a Cause: Participate in community walks or runs that support meaningful causes. It’s a great way to raise awareness, fundraise, and stay active. Visit and Volunteer: Spend some time visiting and volunteering at local animal shelters or organizations. Your time can make a big difference in the lives of animals waiting for their forever homes. Kindness Rocks: Paint positive messages or cheerful pictures on rocks and leave them around your neighborhood or in parks for people to find. It’s a simple way to brighten someone’s day. Tutoring and Mentoring: Offer to tutor younger students or read to them. Sharing your knowledge and time can help others succeed academically. Spring break is a wonderful time for growth, learning, and giving back. We encourage kids and families to explore these activities and find unique ways to contribute to their communities. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, makes a big difference. Share your spring break acts of kindness with us using #SpringIntoAction. Let’s inspire each other with stories of generosity and community spirit! As the chill of winter whispers through the air, I'm reminded of the warmth that community and kindness bring. There's something about this season that makes us want to reach out, to give a little extra comfort to those who might be shivering through the cold days and colder nights. We often find ourselves sifting through closets, rediscovering coats in all styles and sizes, scarves, gloves, hats, etc. that have been hidden away like hibernating memories. Each time we find these items, it offers a moment to ask, "Who could hold these items next? Who could benefit from the warmth that these items provide?" Donating these pieces of winter gear isn't just about decluttering or making space. It's about passing on a hug, a shield against the wind, a bit of human kindness woven into the fabric of a jacket or the folds of a blanket. If you're looking through your home and finding items that could serve a greater purpose elsewhere, why not join me in donating them as a gesture of warmth? Let's wrap our community in the comfort they deserve. But a quick tip - be sure to check all pockets. Many personal treasures and long lost items have been discovered in these pieces. If you find that the process of sorting through belongings is pointing to a need for change, whether it’s a declutter or downsizing, know that you're not alone. We've walked many families through these very personal journeys with compassion and care. Reach out to us at www.WayMakerDMM.com or call (770) 954-6622 (main) or (404) 281-2763 (my cell). Together, we can ensure that the process of change is as comforting as a well-worn winter coat. #itsathing #servingseniorsandtheirfamilies #transitionservices #movemanagers #seniormovemanagers #downsizing #rightsizing #declutter #sortingsessions #packing #movingday #unpacking #newhomesetup #organizing #floorplans #salesofpossessions #estatesales #onlineauctions #servingnorthatlanta #servingnorthgeorgia #nasmm #WayMakerDownsizingandMoveManagement #WayMaker #DonateWarmth #CommunityCare

Interior Architecture Student at UNCG | IIDA UNCG Student Chapter Service Chair | ALPFA Event Planning Co-Chair
This past weekend I participated in Spartan Service Day, an annual event at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where students can learn about and volunteer with various community partners across Greensboro. This was my first year serving and I was assigned to Hope Academy GSO. Hope Acamedy GSO is a Christ-centered, community-funded, non-profit school that teaches K-8th grade. Half of us were tasked with applying mulch onto their playground, while the others helped with the cleanup of their campus and a street they adopted. I had lots of fun meeting and working with new faces, and some familiar faces too! Some things that I realized while working this event were: 1. It takes a village. It's crazy what we can accomplish if we work together. There was one point halfway through where I didn't think we were going to be able to finish the job in time, but with everyone grinding and supporting each other, we got the job done with time to spare. 2. Everything comes from someone's hard work and effort. Someone puts the mulch on the playground we play in, someone takes the time to organize these events, someone had to drive us to the site, and someone runs the organization that makes giving this education to their students possible. Everyone is interconnected in this community. I think being aware of where things come from and the amount of care and effort that is put into them is an important and grounding idea to consider. It can humble us, make us more appreciative, and inspire us to pay it forward. 3. Be conscious of your actions and how you affect the environment. Throwing an empty can onto the street might not affect you directly at the moment, but can be detrimental to our planet. It takes 3 seconds to pick up a piece of trash, but if everyone litters and it starts to accumulate, it can take hours, or even days, to restore the street. When you litter, the majority of the time it does not just "disappear." Let's all work hard to be people who better the environment, even if it's something small like picking up a piece of trash on the street. A small gesture can turn into a big wave if we all work together. With that being said, I really did enjoy my time volunteering with Hope Academy and hope the children enjoy the playground. I will definitely be participating in Spartan Service Day 2024 and feel inspired to be more conscious and involved with the local community. 💙 💛

Cubby House Toy Library_ Good for children, families, the community, and the environment. This End of Financial Year donate to EarlyEd’s Cubby House Toy Library. Help us to: lend more toys to more families and keep toys out of landfill. Help us: train our volunteers and give families advice about how to help their children learn. All donations over $2 are tax deductible as EarlyEd is a registered charity (Our CFN is 10570). Toy libraries would not be able to operate without our community donating time and money to keep it running. A donation of: $120 will support a family experiencing financial hardship to be a member for a year. $220 will cover the cost for a volunteer when dropping of a click and collect load to one of our external hubs. $200 covers the cost of recruiting and training a new volunteer $40 covers the cost of packing and returning toys a family borrows. $25 helps promote the library on social media. There are other ways to donate. Why not become a volunteer? Whatever way you look at it, local toy libraries bring value and savings to children, families, and our local communities. A community toy library reduces costs to, while benefiting the environment and community by: reducing waste, particularly of hard plastics increasing learning and play opportunities for children increasing equity of access to early education experiences increasing inter-generational social connection between volunteers and families. Borrowing toys reduces costs to families as they avoid the need to purchase a toy and store it. It helps their children learn the social and environmental benefits of reusing and recycling while having access to a wide range of toys. For over 45 years Cubby House Toy Library at Forestville has been adapting to the changing needs of the community. We are now able to save families more time and money by offering Click and Collect services. When toy library services like Cubby House are run by a team of volunteers the library makes use of the valuable experiences of people in our community and develops intergenerational connections. Many volunteers stay for years and make lasting friendships. Others gain work experience and others build their confidence to enter the workforce. Toy libraries are not just about play and reducing waste. They are also a place where families can find out the information, they need to support their child and their learning. After all, parents are a child's first and most important teacher. #CostOfLiving #SustainableEnvironment #ReduceWaste #ToyLibrary #Donation #EoFY #Donate #EarlyChildhood #Sustainablity #EarlyEd
