Did you know that this iconic bridge is designated as Los Angeles City Historic-Cultural Monument No. 224? It's been a part of our city's landscape since 1926, standing as a testament to our rich transportation history and architectural heritage. Constructed during the major bridge-building decade of 1923-1933, the Cesar Chavez/Macy Street Bridge is one of a group of 12 river bridges significant for their role in shaping the transportation landscape of Los Angeles. Chief Engineer Merrill Butler, a prominent bridge designer of the era, left his mark on this iconic structure.
