๐ 2024 - Look for new and evolving formats + creators / creatives ๐๐ As TikTok Shop continues to carve a path for Social Commerce and Shoppable Content; the platform is advising merchants to go live for at least 2 hours at a time when selling products on their e-commerce platform. In 2024, we might start to see the rise of a new category of creative content and creator in Western media: the "LiveSell Creator." Why the emphasis on longer livestreams? TikTok's algorithm favours extended live events, giving you more opportunities to engage viewers and attract new customers. Going live for less than an hour probably wonโt give the algorithm sufficient time to find your target audience. Also streaming regularly, teasing upcoming events with videos, and leveraging analytics tools to identify peak engagement periods for your followers IS KEY. While the social shopping market in the US is still developing, the success of longer livestreams in more mature markets like China is undeniable. Platforms there host hours-long live shopping events that generate billions in sales each year. We will see what works here. The key is the creative execution - quite frankly there is just more content here - and / or the engaging creator. TikTok Shop is an exciting platform with immense potential for US merchants. Yes, live shopping originated in Asia where it is still extremely popular. Yes there is some work to do, but with ByteDance, operating the successful live-shopping app Douyin in China, we can expect TikTok Shop to mature quickly. It is very obvious it is a 2024 priority.
