Some of you may already have seen the news that Sun Exchange announced this week. After almost nine years and more than 90 solar projects, we need to evolve and our strategic focus is shifting. Moving forward, we will no longer fund solar projects through crowdsales. Instead, we will focus on full-service commercial solar PV and energy storage project development, with new projects funded by corporate and institutional funders.
While this wasn’t an easy decision to make, it’s the right way forward for Sun Exchange to continue deploying solar power and making an impact. We could not have gotten to where we are today without the global community of individuals who have supported our solar projects over the years. You’ve enabled cleaner, more reliable and sustainable energy for schools, retirement homes, non-profits, businesses and farms across South Africa, where it’s so urgently needed. Thank you for being part of this journey and for what you do to make the world a better place.
Ultimately, this new focus and model means Sun Exchange can deploy more solar power and energy storage faster. As we continue our work to create a more sustainable planet with solar power, we hope to carry forward the legacy of every individual who has helped build Sun Exchange into what it is today.
Today, Sun Exchange announced a new strategic focus. Building on our track record of nine years and 90+ solar projects, moving forward, the company will focus on full-service commercial solar and energy storage project development, with all our future projects funded via a growing global network of trusted corporate and institutional funders. We will no longer host solar project crowdsales for individuals.
We’re thrilled about the uptake we’ve seen from corporate and institutional funders over the last year and what it means for our future impact. That said, deciding to move away from our original crowdsale-based model wasn’t easy. We’re deeply grateful for our global community that has supported that model over the years and got us to where we are today.
