Undergraduate Student of Communication at Universitas Brawijaya | Original Series Content Intern at Vidio
Hey, LinkedIn! Taylor Swift once said, "the worst kind of person is someone who makes someone feel bad, dumb, or stupid for being excited for something." So, because of that quote, I never let go of my excitement for social media and content creating. My love for social media handling, creative writing, and broadcasting had grown over the years, and I'm SO EXCITED to share my first portfolio with you. Hoping that I could update this post with internship experiences next year. Take a look! #WorkPortfolio #socialmediaspecialist #contentcreative

I’ve seen lots of posts in my feed discussing tips and advice for young professionals looking to enter the world of sports and entertainment. I’m no expert, but I thought I’d share a little of what helped me along the way. #1 Seeking out and having great mentors. Someone will always know more than you, be wiser than you, and have more experience than you. Listen intently and ask thoughtful questions. Arda Ocal advice and mentorship made all the difference in my career. #2 Sit in the front seat of your classes. It’s a privilege to learn and participate in your classes. Most of my classes gave me tangible skills and career tips that changed the trajectory of my path in sports and entertainment. My all-time favorite class to this day is Jeff C. Fellenzer Sports, Business, and Media in Today’s Society. Jeff brought in incredible guest speakers, who were willing to answer our questions, those speakers helped me figure out what kind of jobs I wanted to work in. #3 Network. Network. Network. Reach out to people you don’t know, ask to have coffee with one of your professors, attend clubs, events, or conventions (if you can). One of my favorites is a Women in Sports Night that the Anaheim Ducks host. #4 Be adaptable and willing to learn. Being curious and having a willingness to learn and adapt will get you far. It’s okay that you don’t know every single news story or player from the inception of the NHL till now. It’s okay if you don’t know a certain editing software. People are happy to teach you if you’re willing to learn. #5 Take every opportunity you can. Not every position is glamorous or star-studded. The jobs you have to grind in eventually bring you the job you could only dream of. I had many unpaid internships until I got my dream ones at Fox Sports and the LA Kings. #6 Be kind to every single person you meet. Everyone gets stressed out or frazzled from time to time. Be a kind and courteous person to every single person in the arena or office. #sportsbusiness #sportsmedia #sportsandentertainment

Happy #NationalInternDay! A media relations internship with the Houston Rockets in 1994 launched my sports media career. If you want to work in sports or media, an internship is so important because it introduces you to an industry that has challenges no college class can prepare you to handle. Want to ensure you're internship is a success? Here're some tips: https://lnkd.in/gEEjJths

Some thoughts on presenting in a meaningful way as my end of summer internship presentation approaches! 🎯 When you deliver a compelling presentation, you not only showcase your expertise but also leave a lasting impression on your audience. ✨ Remember, it's not just about conveying the needed information, but how it's received and interpreted by your listeners that truly matters. 🗣️Intentional space left for thought and to further provoke questions in speech is often looked over. 🧠 Embrace the art of engaging storytelling and mastering the ability to connect with your audience; watch the connections with your audience grow! I am constantly learning and enjoy the ability to build stronger skills alongside my colleagues everyday. 🚀🔝 #PresentationSkills #AudienceEngagement #EffectiveCommunication

As internship application season rolls around once more, I find myself reflecting on the invaluable experiences I've had thus far. To say I’ve had an enriching journey as a marketing student after being placed at AMP Agency in the Summer of '22 and Evoke Mind+Matter the Summer of '23 by BLAC Internship Program would be an understatement. Here’s what I've gained so far: 1. Knowledge - As interns our clean slate leaves us the opportunity to soak up knowledge without the pressure of having all the answers. Learn to actively listen and ask questions. Trust me, it’ll help build your confidence when navigating professional settings. My value in the power of teamwork and humility in achieving success grew with experience. I like learning from others rather than striving to be the best individual performer. Collaboration is key; it takes a trusting team to produce the best work. 2. Practice - There’ll be times you have no idea what you’re doing, but realize you were trusted enough to try. I’ve seen first-hand how SEO can affect the visibility of content. Doing brand competition research improved my understanding of market positioning, while adapting content for different platforms showed me the nuances of audience engagement. Introduction to tools like Canva Pro and the Adobe Creative Cloud suite empowered me to create visually appealing brand assets and helped sharpen my copywriting skills. Each task helped me grow. Practice. 3. Connections - Throughout my internship journey, a network of mentors and peers supported my growth. Big THANK YOU to Alysha Ali and Emily Jahn for your willingness to trust little ole me with the responsibilities and for your support through challenges. Final THANK YOU to Nicolet Gatewood for your efforts to remind Black advertisers of our value (even beyond the program). From encouraging the freedom to explore different aspects of marketing to being seen as a valuable team member who deserves to take up space, my professional experiences have set high expectations for my future roles, and I'm grateful for every bit of it. #InternshipExperience #MarketingJourney #ProfessionalGrowth #LearningAndDevelopment #Advertising
