We’re just three days away from the final — yes, we did say “final” — deadline for The One Show , ADC and TDC70. Yes, the Friday, March 1 date we announced all the way back in September is almost here, thus beginning the chaotic scramble for entrants to close out their entries and for our team to get those entries into the hands of our incredible jury. It’s enough to stress anybody out!

Transitioning into an entertainment brand, Ladbrokes aimed to engage a broader audience seeking immersive entertainment. 🚀 Exciting News! 🎮 E3 2024 is facing cancellation, but don't worry, the show is set to make a grand comeback in 2025 with a complete reinvention! 🌟
E3 has been a staple in the gaming industry for years, but due to recent developments, the convention company ReedPop will no longer be working alongside the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) for future events. Following the cancellation of this year's E3, the ESA has also informed the Los Angeles Convention Center that there are no plans to host the show there next year. If E3 does happen in 2024, it will be held in a different venue for the first time since 2008.
However, no need to be disheartened! The ESA has big plans in the works, aiming for a complete reinvention of E3 to make a dazzling return in 2025. After signing a multi-year deal with ReedPop to relaunch E3, plans for the event were abruptly canceled for 2023 due to a lack of interest from publishers and developers.
Stanley Pierre-Louis, the president and CEO of the ESA, assures us that while the decline of E3 has been a gradual process, they are fully committed to evolving the event to best serve the video game industry. They are evaluating every aspect of E3, from format to location, to bring us an even better experience. We can expect exciting updates in the coming months!
It's important to acknowledge that E3's decline was further accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The ESA attempted an all-digital E3 in 2021, which unfortunately resulted in financial losses. Subsequently, the planned shows for 2022 and 2023 were canceled. However, other events like the Summer Game Fest, led by Geoff Keighley, have stepped in to fill the void, creating a vibrant gaming extravaganza during what is now commonly referred to as Not-E3 season.

As someone hailing from LA, deeply embedded in the gaming industry, I hold a special connection to the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Since its inception in 1995, E3 has been more than just an event; it was a pulsating heart of our world, a place where passion, innovation, and community converged. Its closure is not just an announcement; it feels like the end of a personal chapter, a signpost of changing times in an industry that I hold dear.
The ESA's decision to close E3, pivoting towards advocacy, is understandable in an ever-evolving industry landscape. Yet, it's hard not to feel a pang of loss. E3's struggles, amplified by the pandemic and the shift in industry trends, were evident. The rise of digital platforms and events like Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest reflect a new era, one that values digital engagement over traditional, physical gatherings.
E3's end marks a significant transition. It's a moment to reflect on how far we've come and where we're headed. It's a reminder of the dynamism of the gaming industry and the necessity to adapt and evolve. But for those of us who grew up with E3, who saw it as a beacon of innovation and community, its closure is a poignant moment, a heartfelt farewell to an era that shaped not just the industry, but our lives and careers in profound ways.

Sony was once renowned for its innovation, but over time, it seemed to lose this edge. What led to Sony’s apparent decline in innovation?
Sony’s Walkman, introduced in 1979, revolutionized the way people listened to music by making it portable and personal.
The Walkman was invented by Sony's own subsidiary, Sony Corporation. It was developed within the company's Audio Division. The concept was driven by Sony's co-founder, Akio Morita, who wanted a way to listen to music on the go, leading to the creation of the portable cassette player that was initially launched in 1979. This innovative product marked a significant milestone in personal audio consumption, paving the way for the portable music devices that followed.
However, over the years, its market dominance declined due to the emergence of digital music players and smartphones.
Sony did attempt to adapt to these changes by releasing digital versions of the Walkman that could play MP3 files and later models that could access streaming services. However, these efforts were often seen as too little, too late, as competitors had already established strong positions in the market.
The Walkman’s decline is a classic example of how technological innovation and shifts in consumer behavior can dramatically change the competitive landscape, leading to the decline of once-dominant products.
Sony diversified its business successfully beyond electronic devices, notably making significant strides in the entertainment industry, including films and music. Sony Pictures Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation, is a major player in the film and television industry, producing and distributing a wide range of movies, TV shows, and digital content. Some of the notable film franchises under Sony Pictures include “Spider-Man,” “James Bond,” and “Jumanji,” among others.
In addition to film and television, Sony Music Entertainment is one of the “Big Three” music companies, alongside Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, and has a rich catalog of artists across various genres. This strategic diversification into content and media has allowed Sony to remain a significant global conglomerate, even as it faced challenges in the electronics market.
By leveraging its strengths in content creation and distribution, Sony has managed to create new revenue streams and maintain its relevance in a rapidly changing technological landscape, proving that the company’s innovation extends beyond just electronic devices.
