Today, I'm celebrating my 4 year anniversary with DaVita and the DaVita Venture Group team. I'm reflecting on everything I've learned- from DaVita Kidney Care leaders, our portfolio companies, fellow investors, and other leaders across the healthcare/tech industry. Some learnings include: 1. Stay curious- innovation and changes are occurring more quickly than ever before. Staying connected to the latest news, blogs/newsletters, podcasts, books, etc. has helped me attempt to stay informed and I appreciate being in a role that requires me to constantly learn and challenge the status quo. 2. Prioritize relationships- some of the most meaningful insights have come from what I've directly learned from mentors, peers, and broader team. Sometimes, these relationships have come from unexpected places and unexpected moments and I'm trying to say "yes" to more quality time spent with 1-1 relationships, while also being strategic about how to solve for more challenging relationships. 3. Be vocal- I'm trying to toe the line between what's considered proactive and growth-oriented vs what is perceived as "bigger than me" for me to effectuate change. I've always been passionate about advocating for issues, particularly those that affect team dynamics, equity, etc. But I've also tried to reflect on what actually leads to tangible impact vs gets lost in the ether... 4. Stay reflective- I was told by a trusted mentor early in my career that I should "think about quitting" every 6 months or so. She told me to seriously evaluate whether my current role matches my goals, comp needs, growth, personal support, etc. and see what next steps are needed to match the growth I'm looking for. I feel grateful to be in a role that gives me the space to have these reflections and solve for changes that I need to be successful in my career. And even more grateful to be working with people who I not only respect, but admire.
Well said, Jane Rho! Thanks for sharing these - I resonate with 1-2, I find these hold true even from the startup perspective. Excited to keep following your journey, always learning from you.

2moSpot on with #4. If you find yourself out of alignment have the courage to be vocal about that misalignment. Be sure your trusted mentors/leaders know your career goals.
