If you're connected to me here, you probably already know that feedback is key to professional growth. There's one consequence that comes from asking for feedback that we don't talk about as much. Of course, getting feedback helps you improve whatever you're getting feedback about. But it can also dramatically impact the relationships you have with your colleagues and their impression of you. People love being asked for their opinion and their advice - and feedback is one version of that. So when you ask folks for feedback, it often makes them feel good and demonstrates that you care about them and your performance. In short, asking for feedback can create a lot of good vibes! Especially if you're new to a job, ask for feedback often and from a wide range of colleagues. Those early feedback conversations can be the start of great working relationships! Check out this article I wrote for Law360 for some more encouragement to have those feedback conversations: https://lnkd.in/e6BqgvxW

📈 Transforming Legal Leadership and Optimizing Legal | Former Lawyer and Strategic Coach for Senior Legal Executives | Energy Leadership Expert | Elevating Team Performance & Fulfillment
I've noticed three endemic failures which commonly arise on legal teams: ❌ Legal professionals often find themselves perpetually stuck in a cycle of being reactive, overwhelmed by their workload. ❌This leads to a pervasive fear of making mistakes, leading to an obsessive focus on every detail and a constant desire to protect against all possible risks, over and above innovating ❌Unfortunately, these factors contribute to a negative "perception" issue with clients - Legal can be seen as slow, risk-averse, and perceived as business blockers. Working harder and longer is not the solution to grow a next-level legal team. 🚀 Instead, we need to be strategic and shift away from constant reactivity into a space of responsiveness. ✨ To address these issues we can: 1️⃣Develop innovative workflows to manage work requests 2️⃣ Communicate clear boundaries, establish efficient systems, and leverage innovation to create more time and prevent burnout. 3️⃣Rebranding the legal team as collaborative thought partners with a deep understanding of commercial aspects can empower clients to grow their businesses. It's essential to let go of excessive risk aversion and instead embrace intelligent risk-taking. At the core of modern, progressive legal teams should be strong leadership and a culture that prioritizes the well-being of its members, fostering team longevity. To get started in elevating the energy and performance of your team consider conducting a team Energy Leadership Assessment to gauge satisfaction, performance, and well-being. In this assessment and 90-minute workshop, we can create unity, identify areas of improvement and explore how your team can bridge the gap. If you're interested in learning more about my team Energy Leadership Workshops, perfect for team-building and retreat activities, feel free to DM me. I’m located in the Bay Area and am available for in-person workshops! Let's empower your legal team for success! 😊 #legalteam #legalinnovation #legalculture

What do I do if my team is resistant to change? As lawyers, adaptation is key to our success. When faced with a team resistant to change, especially in a field like law where adaptation is crucial, there are several strategies one can employ to foster a more receptive environment: 1. Communicate the Why: Help your team understand the reasons behind the proposed changes. Explain how embracing change benefits the practice, improves efficiency, and contributes to long-term success. Highlighting the relevance of adaptation in the legal landscape can also make the need for change more tangible. 2. Lead by Example: Demonstrate your own openness to change and willingness to embrace new methods or technologies. Your team is more likely to follow suit if they see you actively engaging with change and adapting accordingly. 3. Provide Training and Support: Offer resources and training sessions to help your team members develop the skills needed to navigate the changes effectively. By investing in their professional development, you empower them to embrace change with confidence. 4. Encourage Feedback and Collaboration: Create a culture where team members feel comfortable sharing their concerns, ideas, and suggestions regarding the proposed changes. Actively listen to their feedback and involve them in the decision-making process whenever possible. Collaboration fosters ownership and can mitigate resistance. 5. Celebrate Small Wins: Recognize and celebrate the milestones achieved through the implementation of change. Acknowledging progress reinforces positive behavior and motivates your team to continue embracing new practices. 6. Address Concerns Proactively: Address any apprehensions or resistance within the team openly and respectfully. Take the time to listen to individual concerns and provide reassurance or clarification where needed. Sometimes, simply acknowledging and validating concerns can help alleviate resistance. 7. Emphasize Flexibility and Adaptability: Remind your team that change is a constant in the legal profession, and the ability to adapt is a valuable skillset. Encourage a mindset that views change as an opportunity for growth and innovation rather than a threat to the status quo. By fostering a culture that values flexibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement, you can help your team navigate change more effectively and position your practice for long-term success in an ever-evolving legal landscape. #LegalProfession #ChangeManagement #Adaptation #Leadership #TeamManagement #ProfessionalDevelopment #Collaboration #LegalInnovation #Lawyer #Attorney #PersonalInjury #PersonalInjuryLawyer #TeamBuilding #DevonLaw #Tennessee #Florida

This week on The JSA Blog, we’re sharing some news based on what we are seeing in the current marketplace. As a manager, it’s easy to get caught up in the day to day grind and forget to poke your ahead above water periodically. Although it always seems that there aren’t enough hours in the day, it is absolutely vital to check in with your team regularly, at least quarterly, to gauge progress, uncover obstacles, find new solutions, check-in on their well-being and to boost morale. The beginning of each quarter represents the perfect time to check in with your team, as it gives enough breathing room to assess and honestly provide feedback on how things have been going over the last few months, without letting too much time pass before having a discussion. Click through to today's blog to learn the 5 essential questions managers should regularly ask their teams. #humanresources #lawfirm #attorney #legal #lawyer https://lnkd.in/dHXsCu9b

How do you build a team that trusts each other to speak their mind and take risks? How do you make it possible for the team to engage in passionate and (sometimes emotional) debates, knowing that they will not be punished for saying something that might otherwise be interpreted as destructive or critical?
