If anyone can open the D2C in-app consumer market it's Tik Tok, you've just got to have a lot of uncertainty around the regulatory environment that is not favorable towards them. Hard to judge how much effort you should put into this as an ecommerce retailer! Those who go in for this in the short term have the potential to reap big rewards because Tik Tok will be working hard to promote it. Longer term though, that sucks your team away from other options that are less likely to get hit if/when the US government decides Tik Tok is a bad actor. #ecommerce #digitalmarketing #d2c https://lnkd.in/exzwUaB3

"Live-commerce", ecommerce shopping done during a livestream event with a brand or influencer, is gaining momentum in the US market with TikTok successfully hosting its first $1 million livestream. Over the last 4 years, this new shopping experience has gained mass adoption in other countries. In China, sales from live streams grew more than 100% in 2020 vs. 2019 to almost 9% of all online retail sales. Experts are projecting that in 9-12 months LIVE shopping will contribute to 60% or more of a brand’s GMV on TikTok alone. Not sure if you’ve been hearing much about this “TikTok” thing lately, but apparently it’s getting pretty big...understatement! And commercial too. With 1.6 billion active users it’s the fastest growing social media platform of all time. And an astonishing 60% of UK users have purchased a product they’ve seen on the platform. Live streaming is a core component of both the commercial and content side - Ben Muir tells me there are live streams generating over £250,000 GMV in an hour. I recently heard from Claire Hennah from Unilever about the rapid growth of social commerce in Asia, and the western world being a few years behind. Now feels like it could be the perfect time to become an early adopter and dominate a new online sales channel. But I’d love to get your take. 1moWow, I used to manage a customer called Comment Sold, which did live stream sales on social media. Back then, 30,000 was a high number for us in 24 hours. I could only imagine hitting 1 million—that would have been a mission I would have enjoyed!
