🙌🚆 Passenger numbers recovered to near pre-pandemic levels last month with more than 7.7 million journeys being made on ScotRail services during August. The passenger journeys, made between 1 August and 31 August, reached 89 per cent of pre-pandemic levels and mark a year-on-year growth of 35 per cent. Several high-profile events, including the renowned Edinburgh Festivals, the exhilarating UCI Cycling World Championships, and captivating international rugby at Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium, contributed to the surge in numbers. Off-peak travel across the network surpassed pre-pandemic numbers and reached its highest level since 2015 – an impressive 4.5 million journeys, or 102 per cent of pre-pandemic levels. Peak time and commuter travel also saw growth in August, with 3.1 million journeys made – a 31 per cent year-on-year rise. https://lnkd.in/d84eYbDR

The iconic #NoosaTriathlon starts this week. The five-day event, celebrating sports, healthy lifestyles, fitness and fun is Australia’s highest profile triathlon event and the largest Olympic distance triathlon in the world. The event organisers recognise that the event has both a positive and negative environmental impact, hence that they have employed a transition to a sustainable event. The Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival has committed to: - Continue to divert >80% of all event waste from landfill in 2023 and improve upon this measurement year on year. - 100 volunteer hours as educational Waste Warriors located in event venues - $1 from every entry purchased will go to Tourism Noosa’s tree rehabilitation programme “Trees for Tourism” in partnership with Noosa & District Landcare. - Where possible use products that are sustainable and don’t generate any CO2 eg. These two days in Planica (SLO) with the promising young Nordic skiers were wonderful. In January, we started a path that aims to #involve and #listen more and more the young athletes on sustainability issues. It is a project to make #athletes truly protagonists of #change. The role of FIS in this project is to #inspire and #facilitate their ideas, treating all their ideas with respect, even the strangest - which sometimes is also the winning one. It was nice to see how even those initially less tempted found the #inspiration to participate by making their own contribution. I think this drive is due to the #possibility of putting an #idea into action, giving it shape, making it #tangible. A big #thanks to all the people involved! Don’t stop moving, no matter what happens! You’re only in competition with your yesterday’s self, no one else. My second marathon completed and despite the pain, the want to take a break, I powered through and feel all the better for it. Barcelona marathon was fantastic - a great city to run in, well organised, a great atmosphere, and ideal weather. Many people would ask ‘why put yourself through such challenges, such discomfort, and such an extreme?’ - because I want to push myself, learn more, and grow as a person. Keeping on moving doesn’t mean you have to always be going at 100mph, you can slow down and take stock at times when needed, and at other times you can speed-up and race. Despite there being nearly 20,000 runners, I was only competing against myself and my previous marathon PB, I was not focused on what times others completed the race in. I was super pleased to beat my PB from Lisbon, finishing the marathon in 3h 50min. Whilst this was a personal achievement, there was a shared sense of accomplishment from everyone in the event. The last few weeks have been filled with sporting achievements that are both amazing and inspiring! Yesterday was the London Marathon and over 50,000 runners participated from all walks of life and levels of athleticism. The London Marathon is one of the World Marathon Majors along with Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon, Berlin Marathon, Chicago Marathon and New York City Marathon - some keen runners aspire to run in all 6 as a personal challenge, which is made even harder with the competition to get a place in these races. One key achievement was that Kenya's Peres Jepchirchir created a new women-only world record time of 2 hours 16 minutes 16 seconds 🏃🏼♀️and Lloyd Martin became the youngest known person with Down Syndrome to complete the London Marathon at 19 years old 🏃🏻 Last month, British runner Jasmin Paris became the first woman ever to finish the legendary Barkley Marathons. To put this into perspective, only 20 runners have ever completed the race since it started in 1986! I know that this will be one of a hundred posts like this today but I am honestly just awestruck at the perseverance and tenacity of everyone who has participated in any form of sporting event in recent months. The race may be hard but the commitment to training for months beforehand alongside working, daily chores and a social life is not for the light-hearted. I am so inspired that I have entered the ballot for the 2025 London Marathon and will find out in July if I have been lucky enough to have been chosen! This seems to be a common thing and I know so many people who have entered too, and many for the first time. There must be something in the air... I think it's important to note though that you don't have to have ran a marathon or participate in an organised event to achieve something or celebrate your success, if you have been building up to do a 5km run and you do it, that's also amazing! Don't forget that less than 1% of the global population have run a marathon so they are the best of the best and you shouldn't compare yourself to them, but we also shouldn't downplay theirs or anyone others achievements. This is something should apply to many aspects of life where any achievement is fantastic and you shouldn't compare your progress to others you may know or follow on social media. #LondonMarathon #Marathon #Goals #Achievements #Motivation #Success
