Honored to present Edelman Trust Barometer Special Report: Trust and Health data as part of the discussion at #ATANexus this week. Trust+Patient Empowerment=Embrace of New Innovation. At the meeting, I heard from patient advocates about the power of telemedicine/telehealth to expand access to specialty care for people with rare diseases and the reduction of caregiver burden with a health system’s digital care supporting behavioral change or compliance that a caregiver cannot as they are perceived as nagging. Echoing from the stages and podiums was the urgent opportunity to solve healthcare provider capacity issues with technology. For people living with chronic conditions/diseases, health can come from care delivered at multiple points in their life/day with telemedicine supporting patient actions (monitoring, medication, lifestyle, etc) where they live and where their health happens. For all digital and tech innovation, the journey to success includes evidence that wins reimbursement (and all of the associated proof implied therein) or some other type of financial reward (cost savings, fewer meds, better outcomes, etc) to earn a piece of the healthcare pie and the related adoption. Thank you Ann Mond Johnson, Joseph Kvedar, Owen Muir MD DFAACAP, Abigail Crawford, hims & hers Patrick Carroll, MD, Casey Hughes, MA, MCHES, NBC-HWC, Erica Jain, Susa Monacelli, and so many others for a great gathering.

As we look back on 2023 and hospitals prepare for new rules to take effect in 2024, federal hospital price transparency regulations have required hospitals to rethink how they share the cost of services as they prepare to make them more apparent to consumers. The role of data goes beyond price transparency as it also plays a vital role in improving overall healthcare quality among hospitals and health systems. Leveraging advanced analytics to track patient outcomes, monitor performance metrics, and identify opportunities for enhancing care delivery has become the norm rather than the exception. Learn more about the intersection of federal rules and local efforts to improve patient care through data transparency and advanced analytics solutions. https://lnkd.in/ePAJVEgX

As adoption of healthcare technologies accelerates, health professionals need to continuously reflect on how best to ensure their patients are up to speed and able to engage. Can we leverage #EHRs to fully loop patients in as members of their own healthcare teams? And can the data they provide through patient portals and the like contribute to improved patient and population health outcomes? These are the questions raised by "INTEGRATED: An Illustrated Case Study," co-authored with Dan Ruhland and brought to life by George Folz. An admittedly optimistic take with a positive outcome, the main character depicted in this illustration receives timely, customized care from his physician, the chief endocrinologist within a health system that maximizes technology use to create health condition-specific dashboards. I wonder how realistic this feels to my #IPE colleagues and other health professionals who see it? From: Schmitz NS, Ruhland DJ, Harrison K, Zorek JA. Chapter 13: Technology. In: Zorek JA. Last month I polled you all on what you’re most looking forward to seeing in the healthcare industry this year. The top contender? GenAI in virtual care. Looks like you were all on to something. Many industry experts agree that GenAI is set to be a leading driver of healthcare investing this year. That’s in large part because of its potential to “improve productivity, boost the patient and provider experience, and lessen administrative costs.” But harnessing the power and potential of GenAI requires one thing: a large dataset. That’s why Omada Health, an established player with a dozen years of member health data, is well positioned to help usher in the new era of GenAI improving outcomes and reducing costs for organizations. What do you expect to see with the continued rise of GenAI’s in healthcare settings? https://buff.ly/3O2T0RL

Turning healthy data into value. I help healthcare organizations bring together information that matters with InterSystems technology. Got data, need value? Send me a message.
Healthcare has set a course for value-based care, aiming for a world where organizations can prioritize provider and patient well-being over billable hours. With the distant shores calling, the only question for leaders is: What’s the best way to make the crossing? To get answers, I recommend attending the Innovations in Value-Based Care Conference, sponsored by Healthix and HSG, on Wednesday, Sept. 27 in New York. Be sure to catch my 11:30 a.m. panel discussion about the power of data and analytics to advance value-based care. I’m excited to chat with former ONC coordinator Donald Rucker, Greg Allen of Helgerson Solutions Group, Sara Pesko of Verato, Lou LaRocca of J2 Interactive, and Daniel Brillman of Unite Us. Our conversation will cover how healthcare organizations can achieve success in value-based care by using data to: ● Enhance decision-making that improves outcomes ● Structure engagement that empowers patients ● Launch interventions that drive quality improvement It’s an honor to participate in a multi-stakeholder event hosted by Healthix, a longtime InterSystems client who has always been at the forefront of data-driven, value-based care. The public health information exchange’s Essential Alerts system is a perfect case study for leveraging data to improve healthcare. Built on InterSystems HealthShare, it enables clinicians to coordinate care while respecting strict patient consent policies. If you know this industry, you know that is not an easy task. This is just one of the many insightful case studies we’ll cover on the panel as we discuss innovations in value-based models. Together, we can steer healthcare toward better outcomes through data-driven collaborations between providers, payers, and patients.
