Fostering Growth by Asking the Right Question | CEO Coach | 5x Inc. 5000 Honoree | Lancaster Chamber Entrepreneur of the Year | Vistage Chair
I am sharing my experience as a #vistage chair, engaging with incredible #founders, #businessowners, #ceos, and #presidents every week. The journey of growth and success in business can be complicated, but one key factor always stands out - Trust! At Applied Educational Systems (AES), our purpose was to be the most trusted voice in our niche market. Building substantial company growth requires earning and maintaining the Trust of our customers in the marketplace. Trust is the foundation for all great companies and must never be compromised. It takes time and effort to gain that Trust, but it's worth it. Applying the principles and framework of #TheyAskYouAnswer was a transformation experience for everyone at AES. Being patient and steadfast enables us to become the most trusted voice in our market. Stay the course, and don't let anything derail you. 👉 It's all about people. Building Trust with customers empowers them to transform and achieve their goals. #CustomerTrust #salesandmarketing #BuildingTrust #BusinessLeadership

Give a shout out to your #thoughtparnter today. Here's a template: Major props to my Thought Partner [name] for honing ideas with me all these [months, years]. That's it! Just tell them they are cool. It feels good. Jaron Farnham called me his thought partner yesterday, and it was humbling. Awe, thanks man! Accurate! Then I realized that thought partners throughout my 20 years in software/tech have been the best parts of any job I've enjoyed. Thought partners are a particular kind of working relationship, they're likely informal, they transact on equality, and both parties are better for it. Do you have a thought partner? If you don't, go make one! A thought partner is someone you trial ballon with. Someone with whom you check the vibes of the thing with which you're working on. Someone whom you take your priorities to and say, "Am I an idiot for circling this opportunity and running at it?" LIST OF APPRECIATION Big ups to the entire KROW.ai team (formerly owned by Bayard, now owned by Appcast). Dudes/Dudettes, that was the most collaborative shit I've ever done and the most fun I've had at work building anything. Chuck Preslar + Jonathan Miller + Chris Mitchell + Kobe Raypole + Barthelemy Peter + Steven Paschal + Chase Myers & Lorena Vargas. I know we didn't "build in public" so a wider audience could have seen what we did, so that's on me. Best work of my career. Hat tip to Eric Holwell, Cody Harker & Andrew Suzuka as well for all the biz-and-PE-side-of-software thought-partnering. From the Skookum (digital transformation company) days, shout out to Assaf Weinberg for seeing into my mind and always workshopping how to get into or out of stress management with a laugh. To Pat Morrell for the endless "how are we gonna grow this thing?" white boarding — who, now, as a 2x fancypants VC'backed dude — has clearly figured it out. To the late Don Post for believing we could do anything we wanted and always laying the first brick. To Patrick E. McLean for kindly saying "I told you what to do last time we talked" without saying he was repeating himself. For always answering the phone and getting weird. For cheerleading whatever hair-brained idea was new and weighing it against all others. For the nonchalant story-time that was the best "advise that doesn't sound like advise" I got back a few years ago when my wife was really sick. And finally to Kala Horvitz for championing that the advertising business she was at HIRE HER another thought partner, and truly making me feel welcome into informal, team-lead, knowledge work. Some of you I talk to frequently, some of you I haven't seen in some time. Thought partners aren't just your bros/brahs. That's a different post. They're not just your colleagues or people in your department. They can work anywhere in the business. Thought partners might shape your career more than anyone else. Give as much as you take. Thank you all!

Our past partnerships and “collabs” have been pivotal in shaping our ongoing journey. Considering that we are now wrapping up Q1 2024, we’d like to expand upon our philosophy with this topic. 📜 Partnerships and collaborations just for the sake of doing so, can undermine the potential for success. 🏆 Think of ‘Partnerships’ and ‘Collaborations’ more along the lines of forging ‘Strategic Alliances.’ To be successful, the foundation must be built upon a cultural fit and shared mindset. It’s also the fact that two (or more) parties need to have different networks and talents that are unique to each other. 💫 🌟 But it’s critical to align based on combined emphasis of shared missions and objectives. Sharing values and goals will strengthen collective reputations and can even help navigate challenges more effectively. 🎯 So ask, do you want a ‘collab’ or do you want to form a ‘strategic alliance’? 🤝 #StrategicCollaboration #SuccessMindset Bill Nottingham Alison Nottingham

The relationships in this business are incredibly rewarding, and I’m so grateful for the time I spent with Alvin Shah this week in Atlanta. Hearing his incredible story left a lasting impression on me. Here are a few key takeaways from our conversation: 1. Commitment to Family: Alvin's dedication to his family is truly inspiring. Throughout our dinner, it was clear that family comes first for him. He spoke about his spouse, children, and mom with such respect and admiration. His approach to family life is something I deeply admire and aspire to emulate. 2. Business Acumen: While our industry often highlights growth, revenue generation, and numbers, Alvin’s expertise goes beyond that. He understands how to rightsize the business and manage expenses in any market condition. This ability to balance growth and stability is what sets great operators apart from good ones. 3. Innovative Mindset: Innovation is at the forefront of Alvin’s mind. He is making significant strides to benefit his company and his entire team. His forward-thinking approach is truly commendable. Leaving our dinner, I felt enthusiastic and motivated to serve my team better, thanks to the insights and inspiration I gained from Alvin. It’s a blessing to have such friends and colleagues across the industry!

Dad, how can a partner leave to build their own company...I asked my dad a few months back... He said it depends on the company's environment and the partners' nature...At Bizleap Inc., we've learned that building great partnerships isn't just about preventing departures; it's about fostering an environment where success is mutual and lasting. As we celebrate 5 years of success of our dear friends and business partner Kuber Enterprises , witnessing their rise from humble beginnings to industry leaders. At Bizleap Inc., we treasure our role in this special story. Led by two generations, Kuber Enterprises combines tradition with innovative ideas, showing dedication through every project. Together, we've overcome challenges and built a bond beyond partnership—it's like family. We thank the entire Kuber Group team for their hard work and commitment. Your contributions have greatly impacted our business, and we truly appreciate your efforts. Here's to more growth and success ahead! Congratulations again, Kuber Groups, on your 5th anniversary! To maintain strong business relationships: 1. Communication: Keep talking openly. 2. Trust: Be reliable and honest. 3. Adaptability: Adjust to changes. 4. Appreciation: Show gratitude for your clients' support. Have you found that strong business partnerships significantly impact your company's success?

I get to talk about our UT investors pretty frequently, but I recommend almost every founder I meet to the Oceans team. Sara Barek constantly has found ways to help us get connected with fellow founders, and helped us think through critical ops questions. She’s a connector that has opened doors for us several times. Steven Rosenblatt gets all my angst, deliberation, and requests for counsel anytime something is going well or going poorly. And he picks up! Imagine that. He’s helped me negotiate round terms, close deals, and screen critical hires. I always come away feeling bulletproof… even if it’s only for 20 minutes. 😂 Joshua Rahn name rings through the halls of eternity as a sales legend, and it’s amazing how his name has warmed up dozens of conversations I’ve had with customers, founders, and investors over the last couple years. He has regularly cut through the noise and helped me see what matters. Glenn Handler is people, culture, and ops savant. And from the earliest days helped establish hiring practices to create talent dense team— and find ways to scale the unscalable aspects of finding the right people. Sometimes it feels like the bar isn’t high, and then you get folks like this on your cap table, and they stand heads above. You should be taking their money! Happy to introduce founders in my network that I trust.
