Class 6 Product vision, strategy, and roadmap. They 3 concepts are aspects of a product component. Beginning with product vision, it is a short statement that defines what goal your product meets. It is usually written as a single sentence and must motivate and define the strategy for your product goal or vision. A product manager ensures that the product vision is clearly stated and must align with the problem the product solves. Moving to product strategy, it addresses how you are going to put in work to achieve your product vision. It is also more specific than product vision. Now to product roadmap. Product roadmap is the visual representation of the product strategy and vision with set timelines. With set timelines, all functional teams will prepare to achieve all tasks assigned to the them. How do you create a roadmap? A roadmap can be created by following the steps listed below: Define your product vision and strategy. Prioritize your features and understand them. Collaborate with other stakeholders to align on the features and it's prioritization. Build the roadmap. Share with stakeholders to get feedback. Incorporate the feedback. Product roadmap can be built with Microsoft excel, Google sheet, Miro, figjam. #productmanagement #productmanager

Part 3 of 10: Continuing my LinkedIn post series addressing key questions encountered in my role as a Sr. Product Manager. Question: How do you craft an effective and influential product roadmap? My answer: While there's no one-size-fits-all approach here are a few methods I've personally found success with: 1) Delve into user journeys and pain points by crafting an experience map. Identify crucial touch points and improvement opportunities to prioritize roadmap features and enhancements. - This user-centric approach ensures alignment with customer needs. 2) Apply lean startup methodology principles to build a hypothesis-driven roadmap. Begin with a minimum viable product (MVP), iterating based on validated learning from real-world experimentation and feedback. - This agile approach allows for swift adaptation to market changes and refining the roadmap based on tangible evidence. 3) Pivot the roadmap focus from features to desired outcomes or business objectives. By clearly defining what success looks like, you empower your team to make strategic decisions that drive real value for your customers and your organization. 4) Decompose product initiatives into cards representing tasks or user stories, then progress them through stages like "Backlog," "In Progress," and "Done." - This method promotes transparency, fosters collaboration, and supports ongoing enhancement. 5) Engage a select group of customers in co-creation sessions where they indirectly shape the roadmap. Through interactive workshops, gather feedback, validate ideas, and prioritize features based on user input. - This ensures that the roadmap reflects genuine user needs and preferences. Additionally, always remember to anticipate various future scenarios and develop contingency plans to address them in the roadmap. Scenario planning proactively mitigates risks and seizes opportunities, thereby enhancing roadmap robustness. #productdevelopment #productmanagement #productroadmapping #productroadmap #DesiPM

🌟 Insights from David Wascha 25-Year PM Journey! 🌟 I recently watched old but an inspiring talk by Dave Wascha at ProductCon on MindMyProduct, where he shared his 25-year journey in product management in just 25 minutes. Here are some golden nuggets: Key Takeaways: 🔍 Listen to Customers: Understand their problems, but don’t rely on them for solutions. Building something nobody wants? You’ve listened wrong. 👀 Watch the Competition: Use their reviews to better understand customer problems, but don’t just mimic them. 🕵️♂️ Be a Thief: Don’t be afraid to take great ideas. Your job is to solve customer problems, not just generate ideas. 💰 Get Paid: Ensure customers are willing to pay for the features you build. ⏱️ Speed Up: The cost of delay can destroy opportunities. Act swiftly! 🙅♂️ Say ‘No’: Don’t be afraid to reject ideas that don’t align with your goals. 🚫 Don’t Be a Visionary: Focus on practical solutions over visionary ideas. 🔄 Don’t Confuse Yourself with Your Customer: Keep your perspective separate from the customer’s. These insights are invaluable as I prepare for my next role in product management. Let’s build products that truly matter! 🚀 #ProductManagement #CareerGrowth #TechLeadership #ProductCon #DaveWascha

I love working in product. One of the most common questions I get: how do I get into product? It’s a black box and the path to getting there isn't clear. Tanya Jain and I decided to host a free workshop for people looking to make this leap, and we'll cover how we each made this transition to product, what we did in our non-product roles to set us up for success, and how we've seen fellow PMs make this jump. There will also be a Q&A at the end! If you feel like this might be helpful for you or someone you know, definitely join us on Nov 16 at 4PM: https://lu.ma/i6i3imp0 #productmanagement #product

The core of product management is to solve a problem in a way customers will love and in a way that works for the business. If it’s not fun, you are probably not doing it right and if it’s not hard, you are probably also not doing it right. Whatever you are building this year, as a Product Manager ensure you are testing for value and viability as quick as possible. That’s one way to doing it right. Have a great year! I am Esther Isifeh. #linkedin #linkedinfam #productmanagers #value #viability
