From Rumor to Reality: After being an F1 fan for 20 years, it finally happened! 🏎️ The town that saw me growing up is going to host a GP. The big question: Will Fernando Alonso be there? 🤞 I hope so. But what's actually important is the current trend in sports spectacles. 🌐 More and more events, especially in Formula 1, are taking place in city centers or close to them, and this trend is growing, especially in the US. One of the pioneers in this area was Red Bull. 🐂 They understood that sports like ski freestyle, bike downhills, or even skating, while not as well known, are impressive to watch. These events should be positioned as close to the people as possible, and that means big cities. Formula 1, particularly in the US, is adopting a similar approach since Liberty Media entered the game. 📺 Both Formula 1 and Red Bull now have significant media involvement. This emphasizes the growing importance of media and content in the strategic decisions, especially surrounding sports events. 🌟 https://lnkd.in/d7bKQ7gi

Looking at this column, one could believe that it turns. And yet, she is motionless. The movement of spectators descending the staircase gives the impression that it is turning in the other direction. This is the access ramp to the Giuseppe-Meazza (or San Siro) stadium in Milan, Italy. It is the largest Italian stadium with a capacity of 80,018 seats Source : https://lnkd.in/eh8e4-v3

Disaster and Chaos at the Miami Hard Rock Stadium I am not here to blame one side or the other, but rather to bring attention to the importance of crowd engineering for event planning. This is one type of engineering I would not usually think about, but when situations like what happened at the Miami Hard Rock Stadium occur, its importance becomes apparent. - 60,000 fans were expected to attend the match. - Some fans gained entry to the stadium without tickets. - To counteract this, stadium gates were closed. - The game was delayed by more than 75 minutes. - Thousands of ticket holders were pushed against the gates, awaiting entry. - Stadium gates had to be reopened, welcoming even those without tickets. - Once maximum occupancy was reached, the gates were closed again. - Thousands of ticket holders were left outside of the stadium. While it is understandable that the chaos was not solely due to poor planning but also due to some wrongful behavior by the fans, some questions arise: - What steps should have been taken to prevent this? - What should have been the best response? - Is the country's infrastructure ready for more events of this caliber? How can we prepare better for future events? What happened at the Copa America final between Colombia and Argentina is only a foreshadowing of what we can expect at the 2026 World Cup if the appropriate measures are not taken. #CopaAmerica #Miami #Florida #Soccer #HardRockStadium #EventEngineering #CrowdEngineering #Engineering #Sports #Colombia #Argentina

England v Argentina, Marseilles, 9th Sept. I attended the above match last night (only a warm up for the real match tonight involving Scotland) and I have to say, the safety and security left a great deal to be desired. In fact, at times it was downright dangerous! As ever, “late walk up” was being blamed, but the problems existed from the start. As someone involved in this for many years, you do think “how can this be” at a tournament that has been known about for years? Plus, another incident in France, have they learned the lessons from last years Champions League Final? Could something like this still happen in the UK? For those of you who are interested, my observations were: Poor/non existent signage outside the stadium resulting in too many fans approaching via one side of the stadium whilst the other side appeared quiet/under-used. “Cluttered” pedestrian egress and ingress routes in the immediate environs of the stadium - this included moving vehicles, chaotic sighting of Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) (and incorrect type of HVM on key pedestrian routes) and the citing of rows of police vans on key pedestrian routes. No traffic management at all presented real risk for car versus pedestrians at several key crossing points. Soft ticket check poorly positioned - certainly on one side of the stadium - with a ticket check at the very top of a steep set of stairs meaning people were queuing on (steep) stairs Too few (and poorly trained) stewards at the search lanes meaning the soft check areas frequently had to be closed to allow search to clear. No clear and obvious supervisors or managers supervising ingress nor any clear link between the police (outside the stadium) and stewards managing ingress. Insufficient staff at bars and kiosks resulting in extensive queues which impacted on pedestrian flows inside the stadium. Disengaged stewards who appeared reluctant to intervene or be proactive to deal with poor behaviour in the stands. #rugbyworldcup #rugbyworldcup2023 #stadiums
