As an LGBTQ+ person, I know that the culture of the company you work for strongly affects both your work experience and daily life. I am happy to say that Strata has warmly welcomed me since I started, and it’s wonderful to be part of a company that supports LGBTQ+ people. It’s very important to highlight that as a community, we need to occupy more spaces, and the construction industry is one of them. According to a survey conducted in 2016 by the Construction Leadership Council, the LGBTQ+ community represented only 2% of construction employees. Among those LGBTQ+ surveyed, around 39% reported facing routine discrimination from colleagues or clients. While some aspects of our society seem to be improving since then, much work remains to be done. Facing this kind of situation in the workplace, or in any space, is completely unacceptable, and the community needs allies to fight against discrimination and inequality. If you are not part of the community, please remember that your support and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, dignity, and well-being are more than necessary, and your solidarity can make a big difference. 🏳️🌈✊

It also tells me that even with a top score – our work continues and is necessary in strengthening our people-centric culture that celebrates each employee's unique journey. #InclusionMatters
We received a top score from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for their annual corporate equality index. They recognized our company for our ongoing support of the LGBTQ+ community and for encouraging an inclusive work environment. June has arrived, and with it comes a time for celebration, reflection, and unity as we honor #PRIDEMonth2024. This month, we join millions worldwide in recognizing the resilience, courage, and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. PRIDE Month is more than just a time for parades and festivities. It is a powerful reminder of the progress we've made and the work that still lies ahead. This year’s theme, “Embracing Diversity and Inclusivity,” encourages us to celebrate the unique identities and experiences that make up our vibrant community. Reflecting on the journey towards equality, we remember the pioneers who paved the way for LGBTQ+ rights. Their bravery and dedication have led to significant milestones, from the decriminalization of homosexuality to the legalization of same-sex marriage in many parts of the world. Amen! When team members can bring their individual differences to work, the team is more capable of meeting stakeholder, org/company or, in the case of development teams, donor needs with rigorous logic, deep empathy and high authenticity. Inclusive teams produce consistently better outcomes in the short and long term. If you want a competitive edge, build diverse, inclusive teams with intention. It won't be easy but the pay off is worth it.

On October 14, 1979, a march took place in our nation’s capital: the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. Commemorating that march is one of the reasons October was chosen as LGBTQ+ History Month. Throughout October, we honor and celebrate the incredible contributions and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. At CRA, we recognize the importance of creating an inclusive and accepting environment for everyone. As we honor LGBTQ+ History Month, let us reflect on the powerful events that set in motion our march toward equality for all, our progress, and our setbacks since then. I once worked for an organization that initiated 'People Month'. As a young HR leader, I railed against 'just one month' being focused on people. What I learned however, is that that one month provided an opportunity to elevate the conversation about people, people strategy, value and recognition and proved a great catalyst for positive momentum. Like 'people month', Pride month brings a focus but genuine commitment to inclusion is ongoing. Here are some good tips to help employers maintain that momentum to provide a place where people feel that they belong and can bring their best selves to work.
Pride Month has just come to an end, but this doesn't mean that the commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion should! In this spirit, here are five ways employers can continue to reinforce LGBTQ+ inclusion beyond Pride Month to foster a safe environment where all employees feel that they belong and can bring all of themselves to work. #pride #lgbtq #inclusion #dei
