I feel this in my bones. I currently have all of these skills on my resume because I had to do all of these things as a Social Media Manager. Here are a few pieces of advice if you are hiring one for your business. 1. Choose the platform your customers are on and start there first (No the answer is not ALL of them) 2. Not all creative people are good at photography, copywriting and video editing. Hire for what you need the most and get them help with the rest. 3. FFS going viral should happen organically or you aren't on social for the right reasons or for your customers for that matter. 4. Let them sleep. No one should have to reply to an internet troll at 3am.

Employing a social media manager is the best course of action for your company if you want to develop an interesting and genuine tone of voice. Why? The best way to use various channels, like Facebook videos or Twitter cards, to not only reach but also keep current customers engaged with what they're doing while also attracting new ones through word-of-mouth recommendations from satisfied clients is to hire a social media manager! Companies aren't hiring a Social Media Manager. They are hiring a full-fledged Marketing Manager. You can't just make a few posts and be successful. It's an entire marketing plan. I think the whole concept needs to be changed because we get shortchanged, and companies say, "Yeah, we hired someone to make posts to Instagram and LinkedIn."
