The data landscape has changed considerably in the last year. AI has become a real thing, with all enterprises realizing that AI techniques can add a lot of value to their businesses.  AI needs data, and all data companies are realizing that AI can upend their market. There are one set of companies who are building the latest AI models. These models are intelligent, but they need data to grow their knowledge base so that they can be useful to humanity. And then there are the second set of traditional data companies who store realms of your enterprise data to power business-analytics and applications. And they want AI models to be able to leverage this data to power intelligent assistants and agents. So, the AI world and the data world are converging towards the same end-goal. And when you want to serve AI queries for your enterprise data set, you need a SEARCH database.  And Rockset has been building a search and indexing database for the last 7 years! Rockset is in an enviable position that we have been building a database that is cloud-native and cloud-scale. It can search through billions of records that contain numbers, vectors, geo-points, text, etc in a few milliseconds. The index that powers this search can scale to trillions of records. This vision is what brings us to today's events.. the vision that AI and search-based-data-systems would work hand-in-hand to provide the best experience for developers building intelligent assistants and agents. Rockset is now part of OpenAI. OpenAI has the world's most versatile AI models and Rocket has the world's most-scalable search database. This makes it easy for developers to build AI applications quickly and easily on their enterprise data. I am so looking forward to realizing this vision into reality! It is a pleasure to work with Venkat, Tudor, Nathan, Igor, Louis, Shruti and rest of the Rockset team. I am looking forward to solving exciting scaling challenges in the near future! https://lnkd.in/g753r6Va

That's the beginning of the end of an era where enterprise software is governed by forms, menus, and reports. What you need now is a fast - and scalable - database, and an AI to govern the rules. Whether you're sending an invoice or manufacturing a product, or creating an expense report, just send the data to the DB, and the AI layer will take care of the governing business rules and functions, not coded anymore, but explained to the AI engine in a natural language.

All of which will require vast quantities of electricity, both to run & cool, & large quantities of water to cool too. Perhaps the next task we should set for AI, is to tell us how to get the transition underway, to do an end run around the fossils delaying actions. They're quite willing to burn it all down, for their next millions, or billions... Heats hovering over many of the people responsible.... Perhaps a bit of personal broiling can get through to them... Or wake the rest of the populace up.... or just keep burning, baby burn. Broil baby, broil... Only a debauched, idiotic species would let profit stand in the way of a planet's health, which determines our health... Oh, and if you're using human history to train 'em, the first conclusion a smart AI would see? Hypocrisy rules. Sitting here, watching they dying going on, in the Age of Greed, in the Dynasty of Hypocrisy.

Our world is going to change so rapidly, faster than ever before. Hopefully, these applications will move society forward positively. The one ingredient we all need is resilience, letting go of the old and embracing the new. Easier said than done for many! Start flexing the resilience muscle now by keeping an open mind.

Reminds me of the DeWitt/Stonebreaker vs Google debates of 2008. Is it search or is it a parallel database? But in 2024, why not call it Safest AGI Search DB? Congrats! This is a fantastic team to tackle a very relevant problem.

AI and data are converging, and it’s thrilling to see Rockset and OpenAI joining forces to empower developers with scalable AI applications. This partnership promises to revolutionize how we leverage enterprise data for intelligent solutions.

Some webpages already utilize AI to redesign how it presents itself based on past user behaviors as garnered by data from search engines, cookies, and other tracking. For that too all be hosted in one place with AI is remarkable! There will certainly be a learning curve and a need for societal ethics to be considered (and taught!) at large, but the opportunities are expanding exponentially with this approach.

Dhruba Borthakur would love to see a demo of Rockset (intriguing name , would love to hear the story behind it) Does it only store the metadata to enable faster search and then as per use case it does a live query on the actual datastore/database ?
