Small credit union consultant-I prepare strategic plans, perform comprehensive credit union performance evaluations, develop operating budgets and assist with on-boarding of new and 1st time CEOs.
According to America's Credit Unions, as of year-end 2023, 2,106 of the 4,700 credit unions have fewer than ten employees, and 2,149 (46 percent) had fewer than ten FTEs. Assuming the (high) majority of those positions are non-management positions, that leaves a lot on management to effectively, compliantly and profitably run their credit union! Thus, the need for collaborating with others!

About 6 years ago I received what I now consider to be terrible advice from a respected leader in the credit union space. They said that although they thought that I was director/executive material, I would have an extremely hard road ahead if I physically presented with more than one “visual eccentricity”. This person was referring specifically to me casually expressing that I was thinking of growing my hair out, but I already had *GASP* stretched ears. I’m a bit embaressed that it took me 5 more years and a lot of other problematic statements to realize the toll it was taking on my mental health to be anything other than my truest self in the workplace. Since starting Ivy Tower, I have learned that the way I talk and present myself is valued by people in the community in a way that I never felt in 17 years working for credit unions. Don’t get me wrong, I think credit unions are, for the most part, incredible institutions who seek to leverage their money and power for good (as much as they can without the CFO getting too grumpy anyway). However for me, I am discovering that running things the way I think they should be run is going to do a whole lot more good for both me and the people I serve. I hope to see you all at our public events and private team-building seminars soon! ivytowerllc.com #storytelling #gamification #teambuilding #leadership

Our #YPSpotlight today is on Breana Kennedy, member service rep at Union Fidelity Federal Credit Union in Houston, TX. She's been in the credit union industry for two years! 🌟What is your favorite thing about working in the credit union? My favorite thing about working in the credit union would be having the opportunity to help members and my colleagues by using my problem-solving skills and the grit to not give up on any task or issue. 🌟Have you had a mentor, or have you been a mentor? My CEO, Karen Montgomery, is my informal mentor. She has taken me under her wing and taught me all she knows. She is a rockstar and has shown me in many ways the value of credit unions, whether explaining loans to a member, showing me ways to grow in the credit union industry, or even encouraging me to get involved in advocacy. This has given me courage and developed me as a leader to teach and guide others. 🌟Tell us about your professional development. I'm taking a course through the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions called the Leadership Academy. In this class alone, I've learned about the history of credit unions, shared branching, advocacy, interchange, and so much more. I have also received training on ALM, ACH and rules and guidelines. I would love to receive as much training as possible on everything, especially accounting. Accounting is my passion, and I have wanted to learn and practice it in my credit union. 🌟Have you participated in advocacy initiatives? In March 2023, I attended a Day at the Capitol. We visited with senators and representatives to share our most important bills and issues. I learned how important advocacy is and that sharing the stories of our member’s experiences can positively move the decision-making process of our lawmakers. 🌟What are you currently reading? I am reading a book in my Leadership Academy course called the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People." It has taught me that a person can grow into an effective person by their actions, even if they didn’t start out as effective people. It is definitely a must-read and a must-read again after you’ve read it once! #CUYP #CreditUnions #CUYoungProfessionals

Structured finance isn’t new, but many of the products developed in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis are. And they’re driving a convergence in asset class specialization among the law firms who advise them.

Head of Governance & Company Secretary @ Parasol Homes | Chair @ Legacy Centre of Excellence, Women Acting In Today’s Society (WAITS) & Common Purpose WM, Trustee @ Lunar Society | Green Entrepreneur @ Newfoundland Ltd
Effective governance and proactive risk management are fundamental pillars in averting crises such as Birmingham's equal pay debacle. This situation underscores the paramount importance of transparent decision-making processes and sound data management. We have all witnessed the fallout which has led to a profound impact on community services, prompting remarkable resilience from countless organisations. I have personally borne witness to Women Acting In Today's Society (WAITS), The Lunar Society and Legacy Centre of Excellence. Their tireless efforts highlight the transformative power of innovation amid adversity, filling gaps led by closures of arts and leisure facilities and standing in the gap caused by divestment of assets. All this, despite resource challenges as a result of direct impacts from this crisis. I truly hope that equitable negotiations continue. I expect that a resurgent Birmingham, poised to emerge wiser, stronger, and more united than ever before will arise from these ashes. I already see the shoots. 🥰 Keith Shayaam-Smith Jamila Davis Marcia Lewinson Eneis Braham Karen Bailey Darshan Singh Matharoo Shafeena Mustafa 🏃🏽♀️ Radley Russell Dr Mark Esho DBA (Hons), MBE Clive Stone Charmaine Burton Dr Rashida Sharif Beate Pesian FRSA Omar Buchanan Tina Swani Lorraine O. #Birmingham #lessonslearned #innovation #adversity #WAITS #optimismbias #resilience #Brummie #goodgovernance #effectivegovernance #ForwardEverBackwardNever #LunarSociety #CatalysingAction #StimulatingIdeas #BroadeningDebate
