Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th each year and marks the famous day in 1865 when the enslaved people of Texas learned they were finally free, a full two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was delivered by President Lincoln. Juneteenth symbolizes the hard fought end of slavery in the United States. The holiday is a time for modern Americans to reflect on the struggles of African Americans throughout our history and to celebrate their culture and progress. In recent years, Juneteenth has been recognized as a federal holiday, promoting freedom and America's ongoing journey towards equality. Century Park Associates prides itself on the cultivation of a diverse workforce, and in this regard, Juneteenth holds special significance. Celebrating Juneteenth acknowledges the diverse histories and contributions of all within our communities, reinforcing the company’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and enhancing our sense of unity and family. Recognizing Juneteenth educates and enriches us all, creating more knowledgable and empathetic associates, and a thriving, respectful, and cohesive workplace. #CenturyParkCares #Juneteenth #DEIB #CenturyParkAssociates

It was a great meeting today at this month's Northern Kentucky Society of Human Resources Management! Amber Hyman gave a fantastic presentation on Inclusion & Belonging In The Workforce. My key takeaway? It's called the 7-11 rule or in the first 7 seconds of contact, people make 11 decisions about us 🤔: 1. Education Level 2. Economic Level 3. Perceived Credibility, Believability, Competence + Honesty 4. Trustworthiness 5. Level of Sophistication 6. Gender Role Identification 7. Level of Success 8. Political Background 9. Religious Background 10. Ethnic Background 11. Social/Professional/Sexual Desirability At Newfront, we've adopted many inclusion initiatives in what we call "Expanding the Circle of Inclusion: A Path to Better Retention". Breaking the Cycle: The Vital Role of Diversity Education in Combating Racism and Discrimination In today's polarized society, acknowledging and confronting racism is more important than ever. Our way of way of life and demacracy are at stake. With racial tensions and divisions becoming increasingly evident, it is crucial to address these issues head-on to create a society that embraces differrnce. Confronting racism is the first step towards meaningful change, as it allows us to understand its pervasive impact on individuals and communities. Confronting racism requires a collective effort to challenge prejudices, educate ourselves and others, promote inclusivity in all aspects of life. One poignant example of addressing racism comes from the musical South Pacific. The song "You've Got to Be Taught" provides a powerful commentary on how prejudice is learned and perpetuated through generations. Its message, as relevant today as it was at its debut, underscores the importance of education in combating hate and fostering understanding. "You've Got to Be Taught" premiered in 1949. Composed by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, this song addresses the theme of racial prejudice, highlighting how such biases are learned behaviors instilled from a young age. The controversial nature of the song stems from its direct confrontation with racism and the societal structures that perpetuate it. In contemporary discussions about race, the song's message underscores the importance of education and upbringing in shaping attitudes. It highlights the role of societal influences in the formation of prejudices and the potential for change if these influences are addressed. The song resonates in a world where racial tensions and divisions are still prominent, reminding us that to combat prejudice, we must examine and change the ways in which these biases are passed down through generations. Let’s revisit some of the lyrics of "You've Got to Be Taught": You've got to be taught to hate and fear You've got to be taught from year to year It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear You've got to be carefully taught (I encourage you to google the entire lyrics.) As the lyrics of "You've Got to Be Taught" remind us, we have the responsibility to challenge and change the narratives that perpetuate hate and fear. By actively promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in our educational systems and communities, we can break the cycle of prejudice and build a world where people are valued for their unique qualities. Join the movement to educate and inspire future generations to embrace diversity and reject discrimination. Get involved in local diversity initiatives, suppor t inclusive policies, and advocate for comprehensive diversity education in schools. Together, we can make a difference. https://lnkd.in/gHKeu8F5 #TeachLoveNotHate #DiversityEducation #InclusionMatters #EndRacism #EmbraceDiversity

This week, we wanted to share a perspective on Inclusion from Ann Marie Licata, PhD, Assistant Professor, Millersville University of Pennsylvania --- "Inclusion is not merely allowing an individual to participate or to be part of a group but welcoming another human being into the experience. Fully accessing the experience (and content) creates a sense of belonging and provides a real opportunity to become a valued member of a community. Belonging, or connectedness, can lead to higher academic success and contribute to a greater sense of fulfilling one’s inherent personal and/or professional purposes. When asked “why” we promote inclusive classroom instruction, the answer seems obvious: We engage in inclusion to achieve a greater sense of community and belonging, which contributes to greater academic success, which then leads to greater personal and professional outcomes. Communities that adopt inclusion as a moral imperative will produce a more just and civil society in which all members feel a sense of belonging and value as members."

Does the head of the DEI department at your school (where you went/graduated) or your kid's school (where they are today) know the meaning and context of Antisemitism? Are you sure? Sadly, we are learning over the last 3 weeks that DEI departments across the country forgot to include Jews. Oops. Get loud, call your school, talk to your friends. If not you, who? If not now, when? Ps. DEI = diversity, equity & inclusion
