🎉 Reflecting on My Journey with Blumberg Advisory Group 🎉 As the Grateful Dead aptly put it, "What a long, strange trip it's been." I'm overwhelmed and grateful for all the congratulatory messages on my work anniversary with Blumberg Advisory Group. Thank you, everyone, for your kind words and support! Joining Blumberg was a decision deeply rooted in my admiration for my father's career as an aftermarket service expert and management consultant. I grew up intrigued by his work – the travel, the diverse clients, and the enduring business relationships he built. It was a world I wanted to be a part of. One piece of advice from him has always stayed with me: "In all else, stay at it. Over time, you'll become an expert because you will see how business patterns repeat themselves, and use this insight to anticipate the future." This wisdom has been a guiding light throughout my career. Reflecting on my time in the industry, it's fascinating to see how predictions and discussions with my Dad from decades ago have now become realities shaping our business landscape. But beyond the strategies and trends, it's the people – clients, colleagues, and associates – who have truly enriched this journey. We're a B Corp, now what 🤔 18 months ago, I led a project to define our purpose at Titus: ‘Empower people to improve the world through learning’. 🌱It sounds pretty lofty, but considering the incredible companies we work with (CNN, Doctors Without Borders, Alan Turing Institute) to name a few, these companies are truly making a difference in the world, and we play a small part in enabling that. Now, we've reached a significant milestone by becoming a B Corp, but many people have asked me what it is. 💚Becoming a B Corp is a big deal—it means we've been certified for our commitment to social and environmental responsibility. 🌏From our operations to our impact on communities, we're dedicated to more than just profits. It means we've joined the ranks of esteemed brands like Ben & Jerry's, Tony’s Chocolonely, and Patagonia who share our values. Now, the task at hand is figuring out where to focus our ongoing efforts. My clients pay me for different ways of thinking and proposing ideas they wouldn’t have thought of. Then they get all bristly and prickly when I propose them. “that’ll never work because…” Sometimes I can “sell” them on it. Sometimes I can’t. It’s how it is in what we do. Here’s one thing I’ve found that helps make the case: Clear visualization of how this new thing will work. Most non marketers can’t understand all the parts of a moving funnel without a picture of it. But when you’re presenting something that’s a dramatic change to their sales and marketing process, or even something completely novel, you can’t simply talk about it. Take for example building a value ladder. As a fan of utility-based marketing (providing tools along the journey), one of the most effective ways to get the opportunities that are mostly likely to buy is to take a process you would conduct during onboarding, and make it a self serve tool that sits right before the sale. “That’s crazy, that’s a lot of work” No kidding. But how much time and money did you blow on google ads and ineffective social media on 2023? Eliminating gated PDF downloads and moving a tool (like a 20 question current state assessment) into the email collection slot gives you: - Something useful to your future customer - First party data for sales team (they can see the answers to the assessment and frame personalized pitch… accelerates the sale) - First party data for marketers to do smarter marketing - A roadmap to success for you - Expedient customer onboarding and retention Why isn’t every company offering this up? Initial cost. They’ve never done it. Sales and organizational resistance to change. It’s not “sexy” (although it can be). Think this wouldn’t work for you? We’ve used this to drive qualified traffic and leads to biotech, pharma, medical device and manufacturing. Anyway, when initially presenting this idea, no one buys it. But once a picture of the flow and the cost/benefit analysis is laid out, it’s a no-brainer. Moral? Pictures sell. On our journey towards B Corp certification, we became aware early on in the process that being part of the movement and the B Corp community was going to be incredibly powerful. Several other SMEs, who had either been through the certification, or were in the process of doing so, were more than willing to share their insights, time and passions with the team at Anglepoise on all sorts of different topics and challenges. The first result of this collaborative way of working for us is the JEDI MATTERS Collective, of which Anglepoise is a founding member along with Pip & Nut | B Corp, Lucky Saint | B Corp™, Cawston Press | B-Corp™. We've based our collective on the JEDI framework from B Labs but we want many more of you to join us (and you don't have to be a B Corp).
