"The VC market is the most illiquid market you can trade-in. This makes it also a market that is always on the lookout for additional liquidity. To create a viable exit strategy, a lot of attention needs to be placed on the sourcing of the ventures. Not only look at the current position but also buy with the exit already in mind. Besides that, there should be more attention paid to alternative ways of providing liquidity in this market."

This article should be right away WITHDRAWN by @livemint. I have never seen such an one sided based article ever. More so a journalist defending it and calling it absurd.
To start with, pls stop supporting by stating its a tiny portion of AUM. Even if it 0.00001% it is not fund managers papa paisa to bet on such stocks. There is a fiduciary relationship with Unit holders. The investment objective and rationale should be put across specifically for such bets.
Secondly, questions to be asked is why should a retirement saving fund and dividend yield fund invest in a loss making startup??
Third question to be asked is how can a large cap, mid cap, small cap, flexi cap, multicap from same AMC apply for the IPO. We understand that each scheme allows some % to be invested in certain category of stock mcap, but why would AMC do that?
Would have pointed more questions but given that it's already said absurd and conclusion is arrived by just comparing returns with benchmark, there is nothing much to say.
The whole ruckus about #mutualfunds investing in #mamaearth IPO is absurd. A fund should not be judged by a single bet with a tiny fraction of its AUM. Most of these funds have beaten their benchmarks. Story by Akshat Rohatgihttps://lnkd.in/gum5iVDQ
