Bottom-up or top-down forecasting - what's better? My answer: An educated forecast consists of both. Bottom-up ⬆ - data-driven - process-driven - based on the actual pipeline - BUT: difficult to start without historical data Top-down ⬇ - holistic - easy to start with - considers external factors beyond the pipeline - BUT: influencing factors can be hard to estimate Plus, Ping Del Giudice brilliantly points out that forecasting is a collaborative process beyond just the sales team.
