Turning ideas to reality @ Capgemini Engineering. From inception to adoption | Design Thinking · Ideation · Innovation · Storytelling · Strategy · Facilitation · Intrapreneurship
This week, as we have the International Women's Day, I reflect on gender equality in engineering - a field where the gender gap is more than just a statistic; it's a call to action. 📣 Nine months ago, I embarked on a rewarding journey with the Women in Engineering Mentoring program at Capgemini Engineering, stepping into the role of a mentor. The program's mission is simple yet profound: to bridge the gender gap in engineering by not just promoting women but accelerating their progress to leadership roles. Equality isn't achieved by promoting an equal number of men and women; it's about consciously closing the gap. At the core of this mission? Mentorship. I had the privilege of mentoring Izabella F. Bastos Nardelli, and our Journey was unique! We took an innovative approach to mentorship, through visual thinking and facilitation. We crafted a clear course for Izabella's aspirations and the steps to fulfill them. This week, our journey took us to a global stage, sharing our story with an audience of over 700. Witnessing the ripple effect of our mentorship and celebrating Izabella's accomplishments was a profound moment of pride. As we celebrate International Women's Day, let us remember that true equality requires action, and it requires mentorship paving the way for more women like Izabella to lead, innovate, and inspire. ✨ A big shout out to all sponsors of the Women in Engineering program! Rising Star Award Winner 2024 | HALZAK - Elevate - Women in Tech podcast Host | 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀, | UN Women UK Delegate- 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
Friday was the Elevate - Women in Tech Leadership Mentor Program Launch. In our panel discussion, Dan Lake highlighted a powerful illustration of #equity vs #equality during his panel discussion. The image perfectly captures why simply providing the same opportunities (equality) is not enough for underrepresented groups. True equity means providing appropriate support and resources tailored to each group's unique needs and challenges, ensuring they have an equitable chance to progress and succeed. As we prepare to celebrate #InternationalWomensDay and #WomensHistoryMonth, we must reflect on our approach to achieving gender parity for women in tech. Merely distributing the same "boxes" or opportunities to everyone is not sufficient. We need to thoughtfully consider how we can provide the specific tools, mentorship, and support systems necessary for women to overcome barriers and truly elevate their tech careers. That's why we launched 🚀 the Elevate - Women in Tech Leadership Mentor Program. Our program aims to empower the tech leaders of tomorrow. Each of our 100 mentees will have access to valuable resources, including mentorship and tools, to elevate their journeys into tech leadership. Together, we pave the way for true gender equality in the tech industry. ❓ What are your thoughts on how we can advance gender equity in tech and create a more inclusive environment where women can thrive? #womenintech #dei #equity #equality #iwd2024 #mentorship #inspireinclusion #elevatewomenintech

‘Beyond Glass Ceilings’ - a dynamic session exploring how diverse leadership fuels innovation and how we can empower women leaders to shape the future of technology. Featuring Clara Chappaz Rika Nakazawa Élisabeth Moreno Kamola Sobirova & Zubair Timol as moderator. The panellists shared personal and professional experiences of overcoming challenges in order to rise to leadership roles: - Education plays a crucial role in addressing gender biases and stereotypes from a young age. Using technology to educate girls on opportunities in tech fields can help empower more women. - While policies are important, true progress requires companies and leaders to prioritize gender equality through their actions, like in hiring, retention, and culture. Best practices for empowering women should be shared. - Addressing unconscious biases openly and calling out lack of progress can help drive real change. Allyship and leadership from both women and men is needed. - Storytelling, sharing experiences, and acknowledging challenges are important for ongoing dialogue and learning on diversity issues. If innovation is your goal - you’ve got to walk it like you talk it. WOMEN IN TECH ® Global #WITGS24 #PowHER #PowHERofInnovation #WomenInTech #Innovation #GlassCeiling

Is the glass ceiling in technology just an outdated concept? 🤔 Despite strides towards gender equality and increased awareness from movements like #MeToo, the ceiling not only still exists—it remains a formidable barrier in tech. As the CEO of Valor Partners, a boutique tech search firm, I've seen firsthand how the imbalance continues to influence careers and company dynamics. 📊 Statistics are clear: companies thrive when they embrace gender diversity, showing notable improvements in performance and revenue. Yet, the tech industry struggles with a disproportionately higher number of men than women, a disparity evident from educational choices in university and even as early as school. The crux of the challenge lies not only in increasing the presence of women in tech but also in how they are integrated into the corporate ladder. Promotion rates for women lag behind their male counterparts, and female representation in board positions is minimal. This balance will require a concerted effort, especially from male executives and board members who dominate decision-making roles. Awareness of the benefits that gender diversity brings to the table is crucial. Moreover, it necessitates active strategies to recruit and retain talented women. Thoughts? Have you seen effective strategies in place that help shatter this glass ceiling? 💭 Would love to hear insights and experiences from fellow tech leaders on how we can drive change together! 🚀 #Technology #GenderDiversity #Leadership #Inclusion #BusinessStrategy
