Jack Hooper is an incredibly thoughtful and inspiring founder and this conversation with him reinforced how lucky I feel to support founders build great teams every day. One nugget from Jack is that he asks every employee during their first week at Take Command what they want to be doing when they leave the company. I love how this one questions showcases 3 great traits of leadership: 1. Humility. Take Command is a stop along their journey but may not be the final destination. 2. Curiosity. Learning about your employees goals and dreams gives you better insight on how to best serve them. 3. Care. By giving each employee a chance to share personally, it shows true care and creates a sense of belonging. Thank you, Jack!!
We hired his VP of Sales. Our team raved about him daily. We're hiring his Director of Growth Marketing. Our team insisted we invite him to our annual offsite. Jack Hooper, thanks for taking us behind the scenes and letting us know what life, work and culture look like as a Series B Founder & CEO. It's a sincere privilege to watch you lead and scale Take Command. 👏 #founderstories #culturematters

I’d rather be a Sr. Marketer at a wholesome, collaborative, encouraging company than a CMO at a toxic, unstable, political company. Job titles don’t matter as much as we think they do. Some of us dream of being CMOs. I get that. But as we progress in our careers, we begin to realize that the things like: ❌ Title ❌ Seniority ❌ Salary ❌ Half-day Fridays Fall short in comparison to things like: ✅ Working with great leaders ✅ Appreciating fit rather than title, salary, or seniority ✅ The feeling of perfecting our craft rather than putting out fires I’d take the opportunity to work with a great leader, an awesome team, and a lower job title every day of the week than “sticking it out” in an organization due to the seniority, job title, or pay that leaves me feeling sick to my stomach every Sunday evening. What’s your take on job titles? 👇🏻 #organization #culture #jobtitles #leadership #marketing #demandgeneration

Misalignment between stakeholders is always a disaster! Whether it be between Sales and Marketing or the stakeholders for a hiring process, when perspectives clash, there will be an issue. Avoiding group think and the HPP (highest paid person) problem are also key. I look to seek out individual perspectives and then distil that into a document and use this to create discussion and find common ground. It gives everyone a voice without feeling intimidated, creates constructive discussion and leads to agreement. Being able to disagree, but find a way forward is key. #agreetodisagree #alignment #hiring

🚫 Mistakes to Avoid While Building and Hiring a Winning Team Mistake #2 – Overlooking Departmental Hiring Goals. Here's the next pitfall: neglecting specific hiring goals for each department. The success of an organization depends on having a diverse team that includes employees from several departments, including accounts, marketing, sales, operations, and research and development. It's not just about having a goal; it's about ensuring you have the right people to achieve it. Set a clear roadmap for each department and define the number of individuals needed. 🌐 . . . . . #corporatestalwarts #hiringgoals #teambuilding #strategichiring #cleargoals #winningteam #toptalent #businessgoalsetting

Your team is incredible - what’s your secret? “I find talented people in shitty situations. Hire them, support them, and everyone thrives.” Recent conversation with an ad exec. His team is incredibly cohesive and committed to each other’s success. He looks beyond the resume to life experience, ability to adapt and overcome, ability to weather storms and keep going. Fresh perspective and gratitude go a long way. So does leadership who makes them feel valued and supported to do their best work. Take a look at your team - does everyone have the same background? Same university? Same life experience? Maybe take a chance on hiring someone who’s “unconventional.” What do you think? #teamculture
