In observance of Pride Month, our employee resource group OPEN connected our employees through programming centered around the theme, "All Together with Pride," shining light on the collective strength and unity within our community. This month, we hosted an LGBTQIA+ Allyship 101 seminar, a "Pride Block Party" and welcomed Orion Rummler, LGBTQIA+ reporter at The 19th, Casey Pick, director of law and policy at The Trevor Project, and Kellen MacBeth, PMP, president at Equality Arlington for an engaging panel discussion designed to shed light on the intersection of LGBTQIA+ rights. As we celebrate Pride month, meet Dax Ellison, Jr.. Since joining us, Dax has become instrumental in our sales team's success and an invaluable member of our community! When asked what motivates him at work, Dax shared, "My clients motivate me. I enjoy having clients across the DMV area where I can quickly catch up with them over breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It shows we're human." Learn more about Dax and stay tuned for more features celebrating our employees!

To avoid rainbow-washing during Pride Month, individuals and organizations should focus on genuine allyship and meaningful support for LGBTQIA+ communities. Here are some ways to do so: Educate yourself: Take the time to learn about the history of Pride Month, the LGBTQIA+ rights movement, and the diverse experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals. Understanding the challenges faced by the community is crucial for being an effective ally. Listen to LGBTQIA+ voices: Amplify the voices of LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities by listening to their stories, experiences, and perspectives. Center their voices in discussions about LGBTQIA+ rights and issues. Take action year-round: Support LGBTQIA+ rights and causes beyond Pride Month. Advocate for inclusive policies, support LGBTQIA+ organizations, and participate in efforts to combat discrimination and inequality faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. Be authentic: Avoid using LGBTQIA+ symbols or participating in Pride events solely for marketing or branding purposes. Instead, demonstrate genuine support for LGBTQIA+ communities through your actions, policies, and initiatives. Collaborate with LGBTQIA+ organizations: Partner with LGBTQIA+ organizations and community leaders to support their work and initiatives. Listen to their guidance and involve them in decision-making processes. Prioritize inclusion: Ensure that LGBTQIA+ individuals feel welcome and supported in your spaces and communities. Create inclusive environments where everyone feels valued and respected regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. By taking these steps, individuals and organizations can avoid rainbow-washing and demonstrate authentic support for LGBTQIA+ communities during Pride Month and beyond.

June has come back around, and brands are *still* rainbow washing 🥱 Here are 5 meaningful things you can do this #PrideMonth, rather than change your logo to a rainbow 👇 1️⃣ Contribute to organizations directly supporting the LGBTQIA+ community (in the form of both time and money) 2️⃣ Ensure your internal policies and practices are inclusive to your existing and future workforce 3️⃣ Run DE&I training for your team to create a more inclusive working environment (hit up Laura Clarke if you want to make this happen!) 4️⃣ Partner on initiatives and campaigns with LGBTQIA+ creators — and please don’t expect them to work for free! (Ash has published some lovely content around this) 5️⃣ Engage with the LGBTQIA+ community to understand their perspectives, challenges and needs Brands often mean well, but meaninglessly posting about Pride Month can often create a false sense of allyship. Rainbows are more than welcomed…as long as the brand puts their money where their mouth is. If you really want to impact the equity, acceptance and inclusivity of the LGBT+ community, please positively commit to to these activities year-round. Ongoing support is much more meaningful, and helps create positive change for future generations! If you *are* going to post about #PrideMonth, ensure LGBTQIA+ voices are involved in the creation and approval of any content or campaigns you have going out. If you can think of anything else you’d like to see, feel free add other ideas in the comments 👇

As we step into Pride Month, I want to take a moment to celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ community. 🌈 Pride is more than just a celebration; it’s a powerful statement about love, identity, and the freedom to be oneself without fear. It’s about recognizing the struggles, honoring the courage, and supporting the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. As an ally, I stand in solidarity with my LGBTQIA+ friends, colleagues, and the global community. I am committed to learning, listening, and lending my voice to advocate for inclusivity and diversity in all spaces. How can you become an ally, you ask? 😇 There are so many things you can do to be a better ally. 1. Educate yourself. 2. Listen and learn. 3. Be mindful of pronouns. 4. Practice inclusivity when you address the room. 5. Give up those “jokes” that are hurtful to the community. 6. Shame those movies that make fun of the community in a slapstick stereotypical way. 7. Call out discrimination when you see one. 8. Be humble, learn from mistakes, challenge your biases. 9. Support LGBTQIA+ causes. 10. If you are a reader like me, incorporate books by authors from LGBTQIA+ community in your bookshelf. (You can always ask me if you need reading recommendations) And if you are still on the fence about becoming an ally, no pressure. I hope you become one, someday. Till then, be open minded, be supportive. Otherwise, just get out of the way of progress, equality and equity. Let’s use this month to reflect on how we can all contribute to a world where everyone can live authentically and love freely. Let’s continue to educate ourselves, speak up against discrimination, and celebrate the beautiful spectrum of human experience. Happy Pride Month! #PrideMonth #Inclusion #Diversity #Allyship #archesintherainbow Chandra Duraiswamy

Check out our new look + our new website!! https://lnkd.in/gKkKsVy7 About our new logo–– Clover: A carefree life of ease, comfort, and prosperity. Intersecting Hearts: The three hearts, overlapping and intertwined, represent the interconnectedness and shared humanity of individuals from diverse backgrounds, orientations, and walks of life. This emblematic portrayal of unity serves as a reminder that, regardless of our differences, we all share the common thread of being human. The hearts signify empathy, compassion, & the capacity for love that transcends barriers. Butterfly Empowerment: The convergence of the hearts creates the shape of a butterfly, a timeless symbol of transformation, growth, and freedom. The butterfly's journey from a humble caterpillar to a majestic creature in flight mirrors the potential journey of LGBTQ+ people. The icon is intended to inspire us to find our own wings, embrace our unique identities, and flourish in a supportive and inclusive environment. Historial Triangle: At the center of the logo, the intersecting hearts form a triangle. This is a subtle yet profound nod to our organization’s former logo and roots. It’s thus a poignant reference to the historical struggles of the LGBTQ+ community as well as the pink triangle, a reminder of past hardships. This triangle transforms into a symbol of strength, resilience, & progress - showing that even in the face of adversity, the community has persevered and thrived. Linear Unity: The entire logo is composed of lines, representing the interconnectedness and solidarity that arise when individuals come together. These lines symbolize the bonds forged by shared experiences, aspirations, and efforts. Just as the logo's elements converge, the LGBTQ+ community's collective strength emerges when people stand united in support, love, and advocacy. Thank you to Good Rebellion for creating our new logo and being so amazing to work with!

Marsha P. Johnson: 'No Pride for Some of Us Without Liberation for All of Us' 🏳️🌈 Marsha P. Johnson's powerful words serve as a reminder that true pride and progress come from lifting each other up, hand in hand. Inclusivity isn't just a buzzword; it's a commitment to a brighter future where every voice is heard and valued. As a coach, I wholeheartedly embrace this message. My workshops are meticulously designed to build bridges and foster understanding among diverse individuals. We delve deep into the unique experiences of neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ communities, promoting acceptance and celebration of every individual's identity. In our collective journey towards liberation and equality, no one should be left behind. It's not just about some of us; it's about all of us. Together, we can create a world where pride knows no bounds, where every person is free to express their authentic self, and where diversity is our greatest strength. Let's continue Marsha P. Johnson's legacy by working hand in hand to build a more inclusive and equitable society. Your voice matters, and together, we can ensure that no one is left behind in our pursuit of progress and liberation. 🌍🌈 #InclusivityMatters #PrideForAll

#Pride is less than a month away, and once again the haters have ramped up their campaign against businesses such as Target from selling Pride merchandise, and one again some of my fellow members of the #LGBTQ community are complaining about these companies apparently backing down from the haters. My question to those members of the LGBTQ community who complain about #Target and other companies shifting their policies towards selling Pride merchandise is what should a publicly traded company do to protect it's employees and property from some Trumpanzee wearing a MAGA hat two sizes too small so it doesn't cover the point on their head from potentially causing harm to their employees or property? Do you really expect a Target employee who's paid minimum wage to stand up to and possibly take a punch or worse by some attention seeking knuckle dragger who's recording their stomping a styrofoam Pride display just so they can get some views on YouTube? The responsible answer to my question is "NO!" One solution to the problem which I am suggesting to the LGBTQ community who want to purchase Pride merchandise from a business which is trying to deal with haters while both protecting their employees and property, as well as showing some support by offering Pride merchandise is, if possible, purchase Pride merchandise from the business's web site if it is offered. To that end here is the URL to Pride merchandise being offered by Target: https://lnkd.in/g7a8AzCi You can also purchase Pride merchandise from local businesses as well, to show your support of their supporting Pride. While you may not be too happy with the solution I am proposing you can take some joy from the fact it is a potential solution the haters, and it helps keep hardworking employees safe from harm, and more importantly it sends a message to the haters that they can't stop Pride or keep the LGBTQ community from celebrating Pride. I may or may not get some negative remarks from other members of the LGBTQ (or trolls pretending to be members of the LGBTQ community 😉 ), but I take pride in offering a solution to keeping Pride safe, and to show the haters the LGBTQ community can out whit them without too much effort. PS: Also consider that complaining about companies like Target shifting their policies regarding Pride is also what the haters want. PPS: Hate is bad for #business. Stand up to it or find ways around it. #LGBTQCommunity #AcceptanceMatters #NoToHate

There must me a better way. I don't like it when as part of your CSR activities, you visit an old-age home and get yourself clicked - You, smiling. Them, staring into nothingness, genuinely surprised by this generosity and are hoping for it to never end. There must be a better way. I don't like it when as part of your CSR activities, you visit orphanage and get yourself clicked - You, smiling, towering over the little kids who are genuinely surprised by this benevolence and are hoping for it to never end. There must be a better way. I don't like it when as part of your DEI activities, you gather all the 6 colored employees you have in your 50000 strong workforce, and get yourself clicked - You, smiling, feeling accomplished. Them, waiting for this uncomfortable ordeal to end. There must be a better way. I don't like it when as part of your DEI activities, you gather your 2 employees from LGBT community and get yourself clicked - You, smiling, feeling inclusive. Them, wondering why there hasn't been any new addition to this roster in the last 4 years. And why is DEI head a white cis male! There must be a better way.

LinkedIn Friends, I cannot believe that it is July already. It feels like we were just wrapping up my kiddos school year and having family discussions about what the summer season would look like … where did June go! As June fades and July starts anew I wanted to take a moment to reflect on 3 key events in June that help me pause, reflect and focus my #awareness … and how we, as #leaders and #HR professionals, can make sure this awareness continues in the 11 other months in the year. Specifically, I am reflecting on how June celebrates and lifts up the #LGBTQ+ community as #PrideMonth both celebrates our progress in #equality since #Stonewall and reinvigorates us to continue to advocate for equal rights for all. How we pause on our newest federal holiday to recognize the #Juneteenth National Independence Day to both celebrate freedom finally realized in 1865 for those who were enslaved … and reflect on the work that still needs to be done in the pursuit of #justice and #freedom. Finally, June, as #PTSD Awareness Month, allows us to talk about the struggles that many of us as well as our co-workers, friends and family deal with from a Post-Traumatic event. It also allows us to do a quick ‘#wellness check’ with each other and let those in our lives know that we #love them and care about them. June is an active month! I am sure that I am missing some other key events that you focus on as well … and do not intentionally omit or diminish them … I just wanted to share some of the things that impacted me during those 30 days at the start of summer. As I frequently do, I would leave you with a thought/challenge. These events happen for just a brief moment of time in a long year. What are some ways that you (as a leader) can keep the focus on and feelings from them into a consistent point of awareness in our daily activities. I don’t have a good answer to this by the way … but am going to try and figure it out! Be kind to yourself and take care of those around you, Eric

It is pride month - a month, where many companies feel the urge to through their corporate design over board and pull off a 🌈 . While I totally agree about showing visibility, I feel a company who does not walk the talk, should be careful with this and rethink what they are doing July-May. Here is what YOU can do: 📖 GET INFORMED: Here is a little bit of history: Pride month is actually a month of activism and the LGBTQIA+ Pride Month roots back to the Stonewall riots, which started on June 28, 1969 - one year later on June 28, 1970 the first marches evolved from that, to commemorate the riots. Eventually the riots and marches evolved into a full month of LGBTQIA+ pride. 👩🏫 GET EDUCATED: There are tons of absolutely amazing diversity consultants, and programs, who can help you to set up trainings, workshops etc. to get you people educated, what it means. Some to look at: Max Appenroth, Employers for Equality, Beccs Runge, Emilia Roig, PhD, Pavlo Stroblja and many many more... 📝 MAKE A PLAN Having Keynotes or even a statement by your CEO is not a strategy. I order to actually include LGBTQIA+ people, besides education, you need to understand, how to be proactively supporting LGBTQIA+ people, build a strategy, measure and start focussing on equity rather than inclusion. What are you doing to support the LGBTQIA+ community? #pridemonth #rainbowwashing #LGBTQIA #CSD #pride
