For EnviroSustain, biodiversity is an area of particular interest, remaining a key topic we’ve been keeping our eye on and last year, we announced our new partnership with Rewilding Europe 🌳🌎 Biodiversity equals around $44 trillion in economic value (more than 50% of global GDP), making biodiversity one of Earth’s most valuable assets. Despite the massive amount of value biodiversity provides us, our global loss of biodiversity over the past 50 years has been significant, and 80% of that global biodiversity loss is caused by the built environment, agriculture, and energy/extractives. Biodiversity is the living fabric of our planet. It underpins human well-being in the present and in the future, and its rapid decline threatens nature and people alike. On 22nd May, we celebrate the International Day of Biological Diversity, to raise awareness of the vital importance of preserving biodiversity. "Be part of the Plan”, the theme of International Day for Biodiversity 2024, is a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity by supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, also referred to as the Biodiversity Plan.  The Biodiversity Plan offers opportunities for cooperation and partnerships among diverse actors- Governments, local communities, non-governmental organizations, businesses, and individuals.  All are encouraged to highlight the ways in which they are supporting the implementation of the Biodiversity Plan. We are all #PartofThePlan #BiodiversityDay

The #InternationalDayofBiodiversity is therefore meant to increase the understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues that affects them.  With a strong theme #BePartofthePlan , this means that we need #Everyone on board !  Our #Biodiversity continues suffering a myriad of challenges that are often orchestrated by #Man. In the last two decades both have suffered extreme weather due to imbalances and the effects are very live to us ! This is a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity by supporting the implementation of any existing Biodiversity Framework, also a reminder to the states that they need to validate the Biodiversity recovery Plans developed by civil societies. #CivilSocieties.

How can #museums support & use the Global Biodiversity Framework (2022-30)? I made a lot of suggestions in this open-access guide (link below), supported by the British Ecological Society, many translatable to other sectors such as #libraries. In a nutshell: through effective collections, education for #sustainabledevelopment, empowering people to take part in biodiversity decisions and to benefit from biodiversity, shift to sustainable/regenerative tourism, support researchers effectively, operations and management, and partnerships & collaborations.
