This final rule modifies and updates certain provisions of regulations related to Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) accreditation, certification, and standards for the treatment of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) with Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) in OTPs. This includes making flexibilities put forth during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) permanent, as well as expanding access to care and evidence-based treatment for OUD. The final rule also removes all language and rules pertaining to the Drug Addiction and Treatment Act (DATA) Waiver from the regulations pursuant to the “Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023”. 🥳

Chief Community Health & Health Equity Officer, Mass General Brigham, Executive Director, Kraft Center for Community Health, Conrad Taff Professor, Harvard Medical School
Wonderful to see Mass General Brigham’s senior medical director for substance use disorder Sarah Wakeman narrating and informing this important video on #opioid dependency. Medication for opioid use disorder is an important tool towards #recovery, but ongoing stigma makes it difficult for people to access these lifesaving treatments. This is compounded by racial and economic health inequities. It’s essential that we make life saving treatments accessible for every patient that needs them. Mass General Brigham Bridge Clinics provide on-demand, compassionate care to patients at all stages of addiction. These transitional clinics work to engage and stabilize high-risk patients before connecting them to long-term, community-based care. Through concerted efforts and the support of our United Against Racism initiative, in the past year Mass General Brigham has increased access to substance use disorder care by 47% among Black patients, 111% among Latine patients and 90% among non-English speaking patients. To address the continued #SUD crisis, it’s vital that as #healthcare providers and #healthequity champions, we act as critical listeners and learn from impacted communities, spread awareness, and reduce stigma. https://lnkd.in/eFTebR4B

As we continue to talk about the urgent need to expand access to methadone - the "gold standard" treatment for long-term opioid use disorder - one worry we hear about is "diversion." That's "selling or giving your methadone to someone else," to you and me. Some worry that allowing addiction medicine docs to Rx methadone, and pharmacies to dispense it, could result in more diversion. I am thrilled by this panel of smart, compassionate, pragmatic folks who will help us separate fact from fiction, and talk about the balance of methadone diversion concerns vs. the HUGE methadone access gap today that is keeping so so many people from lifesaving treatment. Join us (for free) and please share! The brilliant Stacey McKenna, Noa Krawczyk, Samuela Manages, Paul Joudrey, and Aaron Ferguson (who I somehow can't tag) are going to take us all to school. https://lnkd.in/gxGbQ_x4

2moBHG saves lives everyday and I can’t say enough great things about the services they provide to those suffering from addiction. Hope is what they give the addict who has lost all hope. Respect is what they show each patient that walks through their doors. Caring for the addict while in treatment and recovery is what they do by showing each patient they are somebody and important.
