Greater Than One would like to welcome to the team, our new Sr. Art Director, Victoria. We asked Victoria a few questions to get to know her better. Where are you located? I currently live on the upper peninsula of Michigan. What do you love about being a Sr. Art Director? I love blending creativity with strategic thinking. Being part of the whole journey, from brainstorming to the finished product, is such an exciting and rewarding experience. Plus, it's pretty cool when I spot some of the projects I've worked on out in the real world. What drew you to Greater Than One? Greater Than One's inclusive work environment was the biggest draw for me. The way they value teamwork and innovation, and offer opportunities to jump into challenging projects, really stood out. It's exciting to find a place with such a supportive team and where I can be part of projects that make a real difference. What's a TV Show that you would recommend? Lately, I’ve been binging “Only Murders in the Building” What's your favorite travel destination? So far, my favorite travel experience has been Hawaii. I'm hoping to explore some of Europe this year though. What's a book that you would recommend and why? I recently read "Becoming Bulletproof" by Evy Poumpouras. Evy is a former Secret Service agent who writes about the things she learned and witnessed during her career. It is a great read for personal growth and motivation. If someone wanted to become an Art Director, what would you recommend they do? Completely immerse themselves in art and design; graphics, painting, animation – explore it all and see what sparks their interest. Then, start connecting with people in the industry. Always be open to advice and feedback and never stop learning. Design is a constantly evolving field. #newteammember #welcometotheteam

Executive Creative Director at Tendril | Helping clients craft meaningful experiences through design innovation.
Nurturing Director-Art Director Dynamics: The Good vs. the Bad Good Relationships: 🤝 Directors and Art Directors maintain constant communication, fostering a culture of idea-sharing and mutual empowerment. 💡 Art Directors feel empowered to challenge existing ideas, offering fresh perspectives and innovative pathways to shared goals. 🗣️ Art Directors have a voice at the table, remaining closely connected with the Director throughout the creative process. Bad Relationships: 🚫 Directors and Art Directors exhibit minimal communication, leading to missed opportunities for collaboration and growth. 🎨 Art Directors risk being relegated to executors, following directives without the opportunity to contribute their unique insights. 🔇 Art Directors operate in isolation, failing to engage with the team or share their perspectives during crucial meetings. Nurturing positive Director-Art Director relationships isn't just about collaboration—it's about fostering an environment where voices are heard and creativity thrives. #CreativeCollaboration #TeamDynamics #LeadershipDevelopment

99% of people would walk right past this poster. Why? ❌ The dates are barely visible, you can't evoke any urgency if the show date isn't the first thing people see. ❌ It's generic. This is probably the same poster that your rival school used last year, and your audience won't even realize this is a new event. How do we fix this? ✅ Design it by hand. If you have an artistically inclined student or team member, utilize them! If not, hiring a specialized theatrical designer is your best bet. You spend hundreds and hundreds of hours perfecting your on-stage production, STOP letting something as simple as the poster deter people from coming.

🚀 Exciting Update! Today marked a significant step in my journey as I conducted interviews for an Artist Manager position. To be completely honest, the role is a bit unfamiliar to me, but I firmly believe in trusting my intuition. Post high school, navigating the creative realm solo was my norm. However, my sports background instilled the value of teamwork, prompting me to build one for the first time. Intuition led me to the role of an artist manager. It might seem unconventional to hire someone to manage your artistic journey, but I've come to understand the power of collaboration and the challenges in building a team. Today's three interviews were nerve-wracking; being on the other side was a new experience. Connecting with such talented creators left me wishing I could collaborate with all of them—maybe I will! I have faith that I'm on the right track, even if the path appears daunting and mistakes seem plentiful. Every moment holds valuable lessons, and I'm grateful for each one. Here's to embracing the journey and bringing the vision to life! 🌟 #ArtistManager #TeamBuilding #CreativeJourney #TrustTheProcess

YOUR VALUE Determining your value in media production involves a multifaceted approach, considering your role, responsibilities, experience level, and unique skills. Whether you’re a department head, a key crew member, or somewhere in between, understanding how to gauge your worth is crucial for career advancement and negotiation. Role and Hierarchy Your position within the production hierarchy significantly influences your value. Department heads like Directors of Photography, Production Designers, and Chief Editors wield considerable influence over the creative direction and execution of projects, reflecting higher value. Similarly, roles with specific technical expertise, such as Camera Operators, Gaffers, or Makeup Artists, are invaluable for their contribution to the visual and aesthetic elements of production. Experience Level Experience adds to your value exponentially. With each project, you gain not only technical skills but also problem-solving abilities, industry knowledge, and professional networks. Seasoned professionals often have a portfolio that showcases their versatility and successes, making them more sought-after. Specialization vs. Versatility Specialization in a niche area, such as drone cinematography, special effects makeup, or historical wardrobe design, can set you apart in a crowded field, potentially increasing your value. Conversely, versatility and the ability to wear multiple hats effectively, especially in smaller productions or independent projects, can also enhance your worth. Reputation and Reliability Your reputation for reliability, creativity, and teamwork contributes significantly to your value. Professionals known for delivering high-quality work on time and within budget are highly valued. Building a positive reputation involves consistent performance, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate well with others. Education and Training While on-the-job experience is crucial, formal education and training in your field can also enhance your value. This might include film school degrees, technical certifications, or specialized workshops. Continuous learning demonstrates your commitment to your craft and willingness to stay updated with industry trends and technologies. Negotiation Skills Understanding your value is one thing; effectively communicating it is another. Develop negotiation skills to articulate your worth and advocate for appropriate compensation and opportunities. Be prepared with examples of your work, positive feedback from past projects, and a clear understanding of market rates for your role and experience level. Networking and Visibility Increasing your visibility through networking can also elevate your value. Attend industry events, participate in workshops and panels, and engage with peers and mentors online and offline. A strong professional network not only opens doors to new opportunities but also enhances your credibility and worth in the industry.
