Many people in the US know (or are) someone living with #asthma. Asthma is a lifelong disease that can be serious, even life-threatening. It causes hospitalizations, school absences, and extensive collateral costs.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Asthma Control Program was created in 1999 to help the millions of people living with asthma in the U.S. The program currently funds critical work in 23 states. It has made a significant difference in improving disease outcomes, but not everyone has access to these important measures. We would not want any child to have diseases, symptoms or discomfort if it were on us, but the reality is that, like adults, children can also have chronic conditions. With so much research and information, one would think that every child is getting the correct guidance to live symptom-free while living with asthma, but the reality is far from the truth. Not identifying the diseases, not knowing the natural course of the illness, denial of the diagnosis and fear of the 'inhalers' are a few limiting factors that I come across in practice daily.
