𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝟭-𝗼𝗻-𝟭 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 🚀 At our recent manager training at Jobylon, we discussed what makes 1-on-1 meetings crucial in fostering a culture of happiness and performance. Here are my thoughts and key takeaways from the session: 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 k𝗲𝘆 🦸♀️ I strongly believe that 1-on-1 meetings should be owned by the employee since that will create accountability, which is crucial. These meetings aren't meant for micromanagement; they should serve as a platform for your team to seek guidance, exchange ideas, and develop their own solutions. This is the only way your team members can truly become independent and develop their self-leadership. 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 & 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 ⭐️ 1-on-1 meetings are about creating a space to connect beyond our to-do lists and deadlines. If you're a good manager, you should feel that these are your most vital meetings, connecting on a personal level to lay the foundation for trust and a high-performing team. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 💪 Research also shows that companies that hold regular 1-on-1 meetings are 3.5 times more likely to have highly engaged teams. So make sure you have a set routine for your 1-on-1s. Also, structure these conversations to save time, maintain focus, and ensure accountability. 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀❓ Make sure you embrace the power of follow-up questions to truly dig deep into what motivates the person you're talking to. The real magic happens in the nuances. 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🤓 Growth means learning new skills. When we sit down with our team members to discuss development and growth, we empower employees to shape their own paths. The ownership of career growth lies with the employee. Our manager's job is to provide opportunities and support, but the driver's seat is with the individual. To summarize it, 1-on-1 meetings are our secret weapon for growth and a culture based on trust 🙌. Do you agree, or what is your approach to 1-on-1 meetings at your company? 🧐 #leadership #oneononemeetings #employeeengagement #performancemanagement

Are Your 1:1 Meetings Transforming Your Work and your Career, or Just Filling Your Calendar? Day 15: 1:1 Meetings: Career Catalyst or Calendar Filler Consistent, structured one-on-one meetings with your manager aren’t just about staying informed; they're a strategic asset that can reshape our approach to work and fast-track results. Such meetings are not just beneficial—they're essential for focused alignment, swift course corrections, strategic insights, decision transparency, and enhanced communication. These elements combined sharpen our focus, address challenges promptly, provide invaluable guidance, highlight decision-making, and deepen trust through clear dialogue. Over the years, I've evolved my approach to 1:1s with a simple yet effective tool: a rolling agenda in a shared Google Doc, structured to include: ❇ Quarterly OKRs at the forefront, anchoring our discussions in our core objectives. ❇ Weekly Highlights, with links for deeper dives into relevant documents. ❇ "Below the Line" Items, capturing tasks or initiatives I've deprioritized due to various constraints, ensuring we're aligned on necessary trade-offs and maintaining progress. This streamlined, transparent format elevates every meeting from routine to strategic, setting the stage for our collective success. Today, I shine a light on the importance of regular 10:10 meetings for success. I am thankful for the managers who have embraced this practice, recognizing the immense value it brings to my and our team's dynamics and achievements. How do you structure your check-ins for maximum impact? Do you have regular check-ins? I hope the answer is a resounding yes. Let's share and learn from each other’s strategies. #30for30 #Leadership #Communication #Teamwork Follow me for more "30 for 30 Encouraging Reflections" - I'm dedicating 30 minutes daily for 30 days to reflect, write, and post about the positive forces in my professional life, sharing insights and encouraging discussions on fostering a supportive work environment. 1.01 guide to nail 1-on-1 meetings: How to turn a boring habit into an inspiration powerhouse. If managed right, your meetings with employees can be a real progress catalyst. ☞ The key element you need to provide: A relaxed atmosphere that nurtures trust and openness on both sides. How to provide and accept feedback during 1-on-1s: ➖ When a team member raises project issues, view it as an opportunity for growth. Discuss the problem and provide assistance in solving it. ➕ When an employee is satisfied with processes, brainstorm ways to scale those practices throughout the company. ➖ When a team member struggles with their duties, focus on solutions and helping them become more efficient rather than criticism. ➕ When an employee shows high results, celebrate their achievements, personally thank them, and promote their further development. Remember this unbreakable link when conducting 1-on-1s: ☞ One point for an employee's personal growth = one point for the company's progress. #baseblocks #teamcoaching #businessmanagment #feedbackmatters #teamleadership

Ever wonder why some meetings leave you inspired, and others feel like a never-ending saga? Let's talk about the secret sauce behind holding a stellar meeting and why some managers miss the mark. 🎯 Tip 1: Define Clear Objectives Meetings without clear goals are like a ship without a compass. Start by outlining the purpose of your gathering, set specific objectives, and communicate them upfront. This keeps everyone on the same page and ensures your meeting stays on track. 💡 Tip 2: Mindful Agenda Crafting Agendas are more than a list of topics – they're the roadmap to success. Craft a thoughtful agenda that prioritizes crucial items, allocates time wisely, and encourages participation. This proactive approach prevents unnecessary tangents and keeps discussions focused. 🤝 Tip 3: Encourage Open Dialogue Meetings should be a two-way street! Encourage team members to share their insights, questions, and concerns. A culture of open dialogue fosters collaboration, sparks creativity, and ensures everyone feels valued. After all, the best ideas often emerge from diverse perspectives. ⏰ Tip 4: Time Management Mastery Ever been stuck in a never-ending meeting? Effective time management is the antidote. Set a realistic agenda, stick to allocated time slots, and avoid going off on tangents. Your team will appreciate the respect for their time, and productivity will soar. 🔍 Tip 5: Learn from Feedback Continuous improvement is key! After each meeting, gather feedback from participants. What worked well? What could be enhanced? Embrace constructive criticism, and use it to refine your meeting strategy. This iterative approach ensures constant growth. The Pitfall: Why Many Miss the Mark Too often, meetings become a routine rather than a strategic tool. Meeting leaders may overlook the importance of preparation, fail to engage participants, or neglect to foster a culture of open communication. Break the cycle by reimagining meetings as opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and team empowerment. Let's #RethinkMeetings and transform them into catalysts for success! Share your tips and insights below. Together, we can revolutionize the way we gather. https://ow.ly/qHVJ50Qqsy4 #EffectiveMeetings #Leadership #TeamCollaboration #BusinessSuccess

My eternal annoyance is the line manager thinking this is their meeting! 1-2-1’s are not an opportunity for you to shove work to your team, they are for your team to have time together with you, away from the hustle and bustle to discuss how things are going. Doesn’t matter how much time you have, ensure it’s scheduled, ensure there are no distractions and be present. 1-2-1’s are the foundation of well being in your team.
