Product Marketing Lead at Sierra

Well, here goes…today marks my last day at Salesforce, after an 11+ year run. I always considered myself a lifer, so you’ll have to forgive me as I attempt to sort through my emotions in one post. In my first role at Salesforce, leading Release Marketing, I learned that the best messaging has 3 bullets and that they should always be in priority order. So, here are the top 3 things I learned during my time at Salesforce, in a very thoughtfully chosen order 😉 1. I learned what it looks like to lead with empathy. When you put the people above the work, and take a vested interest in them as humans, they will produce better work for you. 🙏 Stephanie Buscemi Lynne Zaledonis Keri Brooke 2. I learned the importance of bringing your authentic self to work each and every day. For me, that sometimes meant crying in front of my LT on tough days, inserting punny jokes during team meetings, or joining Zooms with my 14 year old cat on my lap. 🙏 Sarah Franklin Shannon Sullivan Duffy Jamie Domenici 3. I learned how to be a storyteller. Turns out, all of marketing points back to carefully crafted messaging and positioning, and being able to learn from the best in the biz, is a gift I will never take for granted. 🙏 Al Falcione Colin Fleming Ashish Patel And I would be remiss if I didn’t give a special shout out to my first ever direct report Sanjna Parulekar. Thank you for teaching me how to be a manager and letting me practice on you. I would not have gotten to where I am without your patience, grace, and feedback. I met some of my lifelong, best friends at Salesforce (including Nalina Athyantha who wingwomaned for me the day I met Dan Johnston, so I owe you BIG TIME)! It’s true that I came for the products and stayed for the people 💙 So what’s next? I will be joining Bret Taylor, Clay Bavor, Anna Rosenman, and the rest of the rockstar team at Sierra to run Product Marketing. After doing way too much soul searching during my second maternity leave, I came away knowing that I wanted to prioritize the people whom I work with and for when selecting my next role. Each and every person I met during the interview process blew me away with their kindness, intellect, and humility. I can’t wait to dive in with all of these lessons learned in my tool belt and so many more to learn 🚀

Absolutely lovely post, each step made me smile as I saw you go from strength to strength over the years. Am going to miss you, but wow what a cool next step, and with so many friends. It’s a small world. Go get ‘em!

A killer next step for one of the most incredible leaders I've ever met. I can never fully express how grateful I am for you, Ally. Meeting you 7 years ago not only brought me to Salesforce, but gave me one of the most amazing friendships and examples of leadership I could ever ask for. You are an A+ human that brings so much positivity and fun to everything you do. ALL the best in this next chapter <3

Huge loss, you will be missed Ally Witherspoon Johnston! Watching your Einstein keynote at my first DF in 2017 really set the bar for what top notch PMM looks like. Thank you for all of your inspiration and mentorship over the past 7 years. And of course, the wine recs were also appreciated 🙂. Hope to keep in touch!

Ally you are a legend and one of my most favorite people I have worked with. So excited for you and your next chapter!

Congratulations Ally Witherspoon Johnston — you are such an inspiration and set the bar so high for us PMMs. I’ll forever remember you launching Einstein at DF and walking away thinking “gosh, someday I want to be her!” And along the way you’ve been a wonderful mentor, friend for me and so grateful for that! From one girl mom to another — go break ceilings for all of us! And please say hi to Anna Rosenman! She played a huge part in shaping me as well. ❤️

Ally you are truly the best of the best. I am SO beyond happy for you. Shoutout to that mentor program years ago that brought us together (and how fortuitous that I would then later work with Nalina Athyantha!!). I am so grateful/lucky to know you and have learned so much from you. This is going to be an amazing next chapter, and I can't wait to see you soar! Always cheering you on 🎉 ❤️

I feel absolutely honored Ally that I got to be with you on this part of your journey both as a friend and a colleague. You are one of the greatest humans and marketers I know, I can only imagine what impact you are going to make with Bret and Anna! What a team!

Wow, wow, wow! What an amazing post and an AMAZING move! This is such a great step for you Ally! From my very early days at Salesforce when I first worked with you for a Basecamp I knew you as someone to watch. You bring it all to the table - intelligence, poise, empathy, and vision. I am so honored to call you not only a former manager and a current mentor, but also a friend with whom I hope to stay close for many, many years. THIS IS AWESOME!
