A great example of podcasting for business. Simple idea, lots of information for the target audience and perfectly delivered. Bríd took my Podcasting for Business course with MSLETB - Skills to Advance, published the first episode within a week of the last class and with the help of a little well targeted publicity, appeared on both Newstalk and RTE Radio One in the following days. The podcast content wasn’t heavily ‘branded’ but ‘useful content’ focused. A great result from the course. Well done Bríd Graham. From Non-Swimmers to a Competitive Swimmer in the Family! 🏅🌊 Neither my husband nor I knew how to swim, which is why we prioritized swimming lessons for our son early on. Starting with 'Mommy and Me First' classes at just 3 months old, he was diving into individual lessons by the age of one. Today, he competes in swimming with absolute confidence and no fear of water. Sports governance is in the news with reports that World Aquatics has threatened Swimming Australia with expulsion, with potential for interesting implications for the other aquatic sport NSOs in Australia. Despite the Australian swimmers dominating the gold medal tally at the recent Fukuoka World Championships in Japan, from reports, World Aquatics is concerned that the Swimming Australia constitution does not currently comply with the World Aquatics constitution as it does not accommodate athletes in decision-making positions with voting powers. Article 13.7 of the World Aquatics constitution requires all 20 members of a national governing body’s Athletes Committee have one vote. World Aquatics can take the drastic step of expelling a Member under Article 8 of its constitution. Reports mention that Swimming Australia has commenced the process to amend its constitution to comply (including calling a special general meeting today), aiming to complete the process of updating its constitution by October 2023 (changes to constitutions can take time as formal processes dictate, with much of the time spent on ensuring members understand the changes and are comfortable to vote in favour of them - reports also mention this may not be so easy here), and averting the need for the expulsion trigger to be pulled. This has interesting implications for Water Polo Australia, Artistic Swimming Australia, Diving Australia, and Masters Swimming Australia, which are all members of World Aquatics but must affiliate with and coordinate their sports under Swimming Australia as the only 'recognised member' of World Aquatics for Australia. Article 5.2 of the World Aquatics constitution sets out that "only one National Body shall be recognised as a Member in each Country." In this way, and in formal dealings with the IF, these sports may be considered as subordinate to Swimming Australia. Where Swimming Australia cannot comply with the World Aquatics constitutional requirements within the time given, will we see another Australian aquatic sport NSO 'step up' as the Recognised Member for Australia? Or, should the other aquatic sport NSOs take this opportunity to push for a new body to be recognised, which all aquatic sport NSOs are members of? The US have this structure in place where United States Aquatics Sports is 'owned' by the aquatic sport NSOs and is the intermediary and Recognised Member of World Aquatics for the USA, and as Canadian aquatic sports do through Aquatics Canada Aquatiques. Why am I showing you a dog swimming? 🏊♀️ I'll explain... 💦 Before the pandemic, I was swimming 25 laps once a week in a high school pool through its continuing education program. 💦 It took me a while to be able to swim that number of laps, and I was happy with that number (though the number of laps may seem paltry to some). 💦 Then the pandemic hit, schools were closed, and lap swimming was gone. ⏩ Fast forward to October 2023... 💦 Lap swimming was once again offered at the high school, so I signed up. 💦 In six weeks I went from swimming 6 laps to 25 laps. I had no idea I would be able to reach 25 laps again, yet I did. ⭐ I like to celebrate achievements, no matter what they are, and to me this was a major achievement. ⭐ There's something about achieving a goal that can empower you to do more than you thought possible. ⭐ For me that is what achievement is all about -- trying no matter how hard a goal may seem to be and then feeling a sense of accomplishment when that goal is reached. 🏆 So keep reaching for your goals! Since one in four Australian adults can't swim, Allianz Swim Club will teach them for free Swimming is a natural fit for Australia, a country surrounded by water and blessed with some of the world's most beautiful beaches and outdoor swimming pools. But not everyone feels confident in the water. In fact, one in four Australian adults are either weak swimmers or can't swim at all. Which is why global insurance company Allianz launched Allianz Swim Club: a free learn-to-swim program for adults, developed with creative agency Howatson+Company. At 15 pools in five states, adults are offered eight lessons in eight weeks, free of charge. Registration opened in July 2023, with lessons starting in October 2023. The classes are offered through swimming organizations Masters Swimming Australia and AUSTSWIM, for 800 soon-to-be swimmers. All Australian citizens and non-citizens over 18 are eligible. Thousands of people registered for the first series, and Allianz plans to expand the program in 2024. With Swimming being one of the most popular sports in the UK ,and the number of people who can’t swim in the UK being similar to that of Australia , i believe this purpose driven sports sponsorship deserves adopting in the UK and beyond.
