SUMMARY:

  • The VP of Mortgage Operations plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the underwriting process for manufactured housing. This position involves overseeing a team of underwriters, guiding them through the review and analysis of loan applications, third-party reports, and ensuring compliance with lending regulations. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong sense of urgency, excel in team environments, and possess exceptional organizational, analytical, communication, and PC skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team of underwriters responsible for reviewing and analyzing loan applications for residential, consumer, and mortgage loans related to manufactured housing
  • Lead a team of loan processors responsible for reviewing and analyzing loan applications for residential, consumer, and mortgage loans related to manufactured housing
  • Serve as the Company's QI for the Underwriting Department which includes reference review, 5 years of experience in underwriting of residential mortgage loans or similar lending and credit evaluation
  • Collaborate closely with Regional and District Sales Managers to address outstanding loan conditions and ensure timely processing of loan files
  • Manage the underwriting process to clear files for closing within specified timelines while maintaining compliance with all applicable lending regulations
  • Provide guidance, support, and training to underwriters to enhance their skills and performance
  • Develop and implement underwriting policies, procedures, and best practices to improve efficiency and mitigate risk
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on underwriting guidelines, lending regulations, and industry trends
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process to ensure the organization has the necessary talent to accomplish business goals
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including Management, Loan Officers, Loan Processors, and Compliance Officers, to resolve complex underwriting issues
  • Provide leadership and advice to division staff in regard to underwriting risks
  • Proven leadership capabilities with a sound influence in dealing with challenging situations
  • Independent decision maker - takes full responsibility for making decisions and consequences associated with decisions
  • Recognized as a leader within the organization that provides advice and guidance to others
  • Train and coach, the underwriting team through micro-sessions focusing on continuous improvement

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in underwriting residential, consumer, or preferably mortgage loans, with at least 5+ years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, guidelines, and practices, particularly in the context of housing (mortgage) loans
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze financial documents, credit reports, and appraisals
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to function in a high-paced environment and work as part of a dynamic and productive team
  • Proficiency in using PC applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and underwriting software
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines effectively
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times
