Vice President of Consumer Lending

Primary Job Function

In order to help Texas Bay Credit Union (TBCU) stand out as a leading financial institution the Vice President (VP) of Lending is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of consumer lending operations, including strategy development, risk management, compliance, and fostering the growth and development of the lending team to ensure operational excellence and member satisfaction.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

• As a member of the Executive Team, the VP of Lending helps set the Lending Departments strategic direction and business development initiatives that are consistent with the company’s overall strategy. 

• Manage and supervise employees in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hires, terminations, promotions, time off requests, scheduling, transfers, performance appraisals, conducting meetings, and training, approving time records, and development and coaching of staff. 

• Responsible for new product development, sales, service, processing, compliance, and seeking opportunities to grow the business and meet organizational goals.

• Directs, coordinates and monitors Lending activities and functions utilizing knowledge of established policies, procedures and practices to ensure that the credit union meets established goals and objectives.

• Plans, examines, analyzes and evaluates Lending Operations. 

• Develops, proposes, gains acceptance for, and implements Lending program policy and strategy.  

• Manages implementation of loan policies, regulations and underwriting standards, procedures and guidelines.

• Collaborates and supports the VP of Branches and Operations in the development of initiatives designed to improve all Lending products usage, increase average loan balances, and communicate the desired Lending image to members and potential borrowers. 

• Monitor loan underwriting for quality control and cost effectiveness.  

• Ensures compliance with all governing regulations.

• Monitors competitors and trends in the market place as a basis for making recommendations regarding pricing, lending product focus, underwriting criteria, and markets for development.

• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of general and local economic conditions or changing trends that may affect TBCU’s lending actions, including government regulations, technological advancements in computerized lending credit granting, needs and preferences, and related.

• Directs, coordinates and monitors TBCU’s sales and service program. This includes effective training, coaching, communicating, tracking, and assessing the program regularly. 

• Maintains and projects the Credit Union's professional reputation. 


Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Continually researches new ways to improve the credit union’s efficiency and member satisfaction.

• Participates in establishment of annual department budget and monitors performance to budget throughout the year. 

• Evaluates and approves employee applications for loans.  

• Identifies and resolves operational problems – develops and implements alternative methods for work improvement. Optimizes the use of all software applications to improve work processes.

• Serves as a permanent member of the ALM committee.

• Stay alert to potential problems and propose changes to policies and programs.  

• Back-up team as needed.  

• Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

• As an employee of an “Essential Business” (as defined by Texas’s Executive Order GA 14), employees are expected to continue to report to work as scheduled during state issued emergency declarations.

• Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations. 


Required Knowledge 

• A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

• Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.

• Knowledge of credit and interest rate economics.

• Knowledge of asset, liabilities, and credit dynamics in a lending environment.

• Proficient in MS Office and computer skills

• Completion of required training courses

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee is regularly required to walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, kneel, talk, hear, and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 10-15 pounds. This position requires viewing of computer monitor for extended lengths of time and travel to and from all credit union offices.
