Job Description – Senior Revenue Accountant

LifeMoves is seeking a Senior Revenue Accountant. This role will be an important part of the accounting team, ensuring the accuracy of recording the agencies’ government grants and private donations. This person will be responsible for several revenue streams in the organization. This person will also provide financial support to the Development team, assisting the agency in successfully engaging with our funders in whatever financial reporting requirements are necessary. This person will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the accuracy of revenue recognition, compliance with accounting standards, and the related financial reporting process.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Execute and maintain a rigorous revenue recognition process in compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, FASB, GASB) for grants, donations, program fees, and other income streams.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and grant agreements related to revenue recognition and reporting, keeping the organization's financial activities transparent and above reproach.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance revenue accounting processes to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and reduce risks.
  • Serve as a key resource for any revenue-related financial inquiries.
  • Review contracts, determine restrictions around donations (unrestricted vs restricted).
  • Ensure that our Grant accounting for multiyear grants is accurate and reflected in the Adaptive Insights financial planning system.
  • Reconcile the revenue from the accounting ERP system (CostPoint) to the Development grant tracking system Odyssey (Salesforce).
  • Generate the following monthly reports: Contract date actuals vs. contracted revenue, percent of complete revenue report, private revenue actuals vs. budget graphs, types of funders for private revenue, fees incurred with 3rd party processors, and different sources of how donations are processed.
  • Provide accounting and financial support to the Development team, including providing financial information e.g., banking data, financial data, tax information, setting up 3rd party processors, etc.
  • Provide proforma invoices for corporate sponsors.
  • Support the Development team with a special event budget.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate annual financial audits (financial and single audit), ensuring all necessary revenue documentation and records are readily available and accurate (i.e., help prepare schedules and documentation for annual audits).
  • Work closely with the finance team, program managers, and development teams to provide guidance on revenue-related matters and ensure cross-functional alignment.


Position Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or advanced accounting certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in revenue accounting, preferably in a nonprofit or grant-funded organization.
  • Prior experience in financial reporting with non-profit accounting.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems, such as NetSuite, or similar accounting software.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Adaptive Insights experience a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and good follow through.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity.
  • Excels at project management to deliver multiple competing objectives and priorities on time, and while coordinating with multiple internal teams, each with their own priorities.
  • Empathy for "internal customers" and curiosity to understand their needs and wants.
  • Growth mindset with a bias towards action
