Responsibilities
Job Description:
Evaluate loan applications for risks and compliance with agency and investor requirements.
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of loan files, aiming for a minimum standard of 40 loans per month with a 24-hour turn time.
Review and validate income, asset, and collateral documentation including self-employed tax returns and condominium documents.
Verify credit reports, liabilities, and investor guidelines, addressing outstanding derogatory items as necessary.
Calculate income and evaluate assets statements, questioning any significant changes or inconsistencies.
Review title and appraisal documents to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Conduct fraud audits and ensure compliance with regulatory, state, and federal guidelines (e.g., Patriot Act).
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of investor and agency guidelines.
Collaborate effectively with loan originators, processors, and other stakeholders throughout the loan decision process.
Approve loans with proper documentation or recommend further actions as needed.
Complete final underwriting reviews within specified timeframes.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 5 years of recent mortgage underwriting experience in FHA, VA, USDA, and Conventional loans.
DE and SAR (LAPP) certifications required; USDA experience is a plus.
Strong understanding of ATR/QM requirements.
Proficiency in Encompass LOS and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with adherence to production standards.
Knowledge of compliance and disclosure requirements, including closing and post-closing processes.
Must be located in EST or CST time zones.
